Is there a way i can buy the multifunction buttons and put it on my std steering wheel?
I highly doubt it. I really wish
Porsche
had made a Sport Steering wheel with the multifunction buttons. I would have definitely ordered it. I just don't like the non-sport steering wheel.
In a word - no. You may not even be able to swap steering wheels to one with the buttons on it - the wiring might not be in the steering column to hook up the buttons on the multi-function wheel. Each car is built with a custom wiring harness. Ask the service people at your dealer.

If you have the std steering wheel, you can purchase the new wheel rim and use the same airbag and the dealer can retrofit it. I think there is actually someone on this forum that's done it, but I suggest you talk to our sponsor
Suncoast
and ask them their price; and also look at the prices on ebay as I've seen some carbon fiber and aluminum wheels with buttons go on there for good prices. - SS
hsjb,
I agree! That is disappointing. Hopefully in the future they will find a way.

Not one to dig up old threads but i've been looking into this.
From what i can tell, its not a problem to install the switch module into the standard or sport wheels. All that is required, assuming you have the standard blanking covers, is the control module, harness and switches.
You may have noticed that manual cars are able to have the MF steering wheel so that means the harness is the same. I have found that the following parts are required for this to work: -
997 613 445 02 - Control unit - £120
997 612 673 00 - Harness - £57
997 613 433 02 - Switch, non tip (Left) - £145
997 613 434 02 - Switch, non tip (Right) - £145
The control module fits underneath the airbag mounting plate, the harness connects it all up between the switch modules and steering column and then you use the
PIWIS
to reprogram the CU.
I can't see a legit reason why this was not an option on the sports wheel, but if there was a question why this might not work, i'd put it down to the depth of the standard wheel to the sports wheel and the CU not fitting.
I am still in the process of finalising this but if anyone has any pics of the harness behind the airbag module in-situ then i'd be obliged for a copy.
