Great looking car  2004 was the final year for the cooking range of 996 Carreras as they were slowly being replaced by the 997.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

After owning a 993 cab im now onto my second 911. I've always been a little hesitant about the 996, preferring the rock hard durability and compactness of the 993. However after starting to do a lot of motorway driving I needed something a little more refined on long journeys. So last week a treated myself to a 3.6 996 and after braving the icy roads ive finally got a pic with a bit of sun (although its already rather dirty) so thought id share. So far im enjoying the conversion to water cooled...

POST 3Original post

Good choice... Welcome to the H2O club... Please leave your beard and flat cap at the door... :thumb:

POST 5Original post

Congratulations and welcome to the 21st Century. More details please. Is that Lapis Blue? Age, mileage, spec and if you don't mind sharing - price :?: T8

POST 7Original post

Good move. As an owner of a daily drive 964 for 6 years (which I loved) I made the move just over a year ago and haven't regretted it. Shame you had to sell the 993 though. :thumb:

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Cheers guys Im only 26 so flat cap and beard are not an issue lol. Though I have seen the extremes some 993 owners go to...but we all love our cars to some degree. Its a 2004 04 so one of the last 996's made isnt it? Colour is lapis blue with what I believe is graphite grey interior (im not to accustomed to porsche option codes and colours on 996 and above so I dont know what is and isnt an option). It has rear park sensors, cd changer, rear wash wipe, heated seats, extended leather interior. One thing I did want was buit in sat nav but I have acquired a becker system with built in sat nav which will blend nicely into the dash. Can anyone confirm if you must legally have headlight washers for xenon/hid bulbs. My 993 did and ive noticed the standards lights seem pretty piddly by comparison....

POST 9Original post

Cheers Phoenix', I thought that it was lapis. When I started my search for a 911 it was the colour I wanted but I never came across the right one. I've never regretted going grey but still have a fondness for that particular blue. You don't see many 04 cars. What's the mileage? All the things you listed were options. If you know your codes (from the handbook or the under bonnet sticker) you can find out what they were by using the 'Search Forum' at the top right of the page. I've never worked out how to do links - sorry - but if you type 'option codes' you'll get a number of replies as it's been discussed loads of times on here before. Similarly if you type in 'headlight washers' and for a poster type 'GT4' you'll get all the information you need re your headlight query. Alternatively wait for 'GT4' to find this thread and he'll undoubtedly link it all for you. T8 ps. It's nice to see a new narrow body fan. Most on here seem to go the fat ar*e route :thumb:

POST 11Original post

Nice looking car, welcome to the kettle club

POST 12Original post

Welcome, nice looking car. Those refinements are pretty easy to get used to! I don't think you'll miss the Porsche Sat Nav, I had it in my last 996 and it was seriously out of date.

POST 13Original post

Great looking car  2004 was the final year for the cooking range of 996 Carreras as they were slowly being replaced by the 997. Only the C4S, Turbo, Turbo S and I believe the GT2 made it to 2005 in 996 form. Not sure if it's a legal requirement for washers to to come with Xenon equipped lights but Porsche put them on as part of the Xenon optional equipment anyway. However, auto levelling of Xenons is a legal requirement. Make sure you have the rear wash wipe as you say in your description as the most cars equipped with the rear wiper only performed the wipe function. The wash function was an Exclusiv option in the price region of approx £900; I have never seen this particular option fitted to a 996 except in pictures. Enjoy - it will be nice to hear of your experiences vs 993 as most people on this forum tend to move the other way ie towards a 993. ~ Maxie

POST 14Original post

Congratulations. I love Lapis - it was the colour of my old C4 and looks fantastic in bright sunlight. Washers & self-leveling are requirements to get type approval on a new car, but there is only an interpretation of the aftermarket legislation (ie. it's never actually been tested in a court of law AFAIK). I & many others have fitted HID kits with no problems either with the MOT or the BiB. Just don't go any hotter than 6000K as it looks blue & chavy :hand:

POST 15Original post

Welcome to 996 ownership, looks spot-on that, very nice... :thumb: Get some pictures up if it really does have the rear wash-wipe, it's almost the stuff of legend on here, we've never seen one (not surprising given it cost almost a grand from the factory)!!
