Just bear in mind there is painted metal in there, so I would caution AGAINST using, say, a sharp metal coat hanger.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Today when driving the rear spoiler warning light came on. When I stopped I tried the manual switch to raise the spoiler nothing happened and the spoiler light came on again. Thinking that perhaps I should lift the engine lid and see if I could see what the problem was I pressed the electric switch (996.2) and while there was a noise although something was trying to happen the lid stayed resolutely shut.
I therefore seem to have two rather than one problem. Does any one have experience of this and perhaps what I can do to get the engine lid up and fix the spoiler.
All thoughts welcome.
Thanks.
Martin.
Use the rear cable release. Simply slide in a plastic ruler or hook to fish out the cable lying under the Passenger's side (RHD) rear lamp cluster.

There are pics too:
The problem will be if the spoiler extension assembly has worked its way loose and jammed on something in the engine bay. Try retracting the system before you attempt opening the lid.
Once you have attempted a retraction using the manual spoiler overide button in the footwell, I would get someone else to press the release button and see if you can gently coax (wiggle) the lid up whilst the release solenoid is active.
If no release, then try the cable option.
OK, so the picture shows the cable exposed by removing the lamp cluster, but that was for illustration, it is still where it lives!
The lamp clusters look flush, but in fact you can get a slim flexible object under there (hence the plastic ruler etc).
I mentioned the use of a "hook", by this I meant fashioning something into a hooking device. Just bear in mind there is painted metal in there, so I would caution AGAINST using, say, a sharp metal coat hanger.
