ok checked fuse 25a #7, its fine, so fuse isnt a issue, is there a relay for the heated windows and mirrors?

I have just put mine on for the first time and all works well (apart for the annoying squeking) I didnt need to connect a cable I am guessing it uses the back locating pins to connect, but even with the hard top off the switch lights up and the wing mirrors dimist, so maybe it is a problem with the swithc or fuse, but only guessing.

This might help, although i haven't tried any of the solutions, mine is a drive queen, i know i know, but gets little use so I can put up with the rattles....
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

well times come to put the hard top on, no more chilly mornings with the soft top.. all went ok(ish) had to take off as i didnt locate the front pins first doh. then panicked as the rear windows wouldnt go up! i hadnt clipped the front on.. so all done, windows up, warm snug and a tad quieter.. but.... the rear heated windown wont work ? when i push the switch it doesnt light up :?: is there a cable im supposed to connect ? this is the first time ive fitted the hard top to it..
thanks

Dont know if you have driven it much with the hard top on but if it wasn't for the lack of garage and spending a lot of Dec and Jan in Spain (worried about bird lime ect sitting on it for weeks) I would take it off again, you can feel the extra weight and I think looses it's looks a bit, not to mention the squeaking :frustrated:
I guess not, I am sure they would have been returned if it was.
I sprayed all of my rubbers with silicone grease and polished all of the paint work prior to fitting, most of the creaks have settled down to a level that is bearable but a week in and it has developed sutch a loud squeak from teh frount center I am going to have to take it off and try again.
ok checked fuse 25a #7, its fine, so fuse isnt a issue, is there a relay for the heated windows and mirrors? the mirrors never de misted even with the roof offf, indicating a switch or relay? the switch clicks nicely, but can i remove it and swap it over with another switch to check ? mind you i havent worked out how to remove the switch yet
thanks
I have the same issues, squeaking and rear screen/mirrors does not heat/demist. Button has light though.
Squeaking driving me mad too, thought I had fitting it wrong .. When I bought the car earlier in the year and drove back the hardtop it didnt squeak whatsoever so I am still hoping it is just an adjustment due. :dont know:
daft question im sure, but.... have you checked the fuse ? A7 25amp to see if its popped ? mind you, mines fine, so it doesnt help me, but i dont get a light on my switch !

Hi Moss,
Double-checked the fuse A7. Seems fine. Button has light too. I made sure I checked it before buying, maybe hood not fitted correctly and that means it is not engaging. For a button with no light, maybe there is something in the switch or it needs to be replaced?
Looking at this manual:
http://www.cannell.co.uk/996_Workshop_Manuals/996 Group 0 General.pdf
page 51, A7 is front and rear fog light. On page 52 it says that heated screen is D2 30amp? Suggest you check that one too. Could be the culpit.
Bought a silicone spray at Halfords will try and remove the hood at the weekend and give the seals for the squeaking and maybe the rear screen will work. Without a garage, extra hands, and snow not too easy ..
cheers greatdane, d2 had popped.. looks like I did a man RTFM and my speed reading skills arent up to it in sub zero temperatures.. now i have blissfull rear heated windows and mirrors
cheers fella... :thumb:
Glad you got it sorted :thumb:
Found out that my mirrors actually work. Seems they have put the smallest heating element in the mirrors as my prior experience with heated mirrors were some more powerful ones I guess.
Evening All;
Put my hard top on at the weekend and pleased to confirm all electrics OK and no squeaks or rattles.
With the squeaks, there's a couple of things that might be worth looking at:
1. Where the roof locks in at the back, I've got two oval shaped leatherette material cut outs that go around the hole where the roof spike goes into the locking mechanism. I think they're to protect the rear parcel shelf but if they do that, then presumably they'll stop the roof moving against the the parcel shelf as well? (I seem to recall seeing a post about this some time ago.)
2. The other thing and apologies if this is far too obvious, but make sure that white line on the locking mechansim is definately opposite the green line. That final turn might make the difference...
Hope it helps.
