It ran like a dream up until it conked out when I last tried it.
Leading evidence: 'Run like a dream up until it conked out' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust race fuel' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I've tested on pump gas, others have tested on race gas, at some point I'll test on race gas too.

Suggestion
So I guess the conclusion is all maps are much the same - unless you can adjust for race fuel which delivers even better results.

Im running a revo stage 2 set up which I like due to the torque curve improvements low down.

I take it you like the Snap-Flash best of the ones you tested, and you don't notice a difference in power, just the ease of use of the Snap-Flash, right?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone tell me what figures the snap-flash is giving. My best guess is that all of these re-maps are an expensive way of adding around 5-10bhp. Im running a revo stage 2 set up which I like due to the torque curve improvements low down. It would be interesting to get some reliable data on the various flash options. So here goes: fill in the blanks:
1. Revo stage 2re-map - 7bhp (as dyno'd)
2. GIAC?
3. Snap?
4. Other?
It goes without saying that the software gives you the impression that the car has better throttle response etc (which is all electronically adjustable of course): however - lets see some honest to god BHP figures for comparison sakes...
TT
Snap is going to depend on your fuel. On premium pump gas 92 or 93 octane in the US you are going to see a 7-10hp gain, but on 100 octane you can eek that up to almost 15 hp gain. Of course there are other benefits as well like more rpm range, no O2 sensor problems, etc. etc.
Ken, has this been dyno tested? First time I remember seeing a claim for measured dyno h.p. gains for for the Snap. It is a good selling point that I don't think has been addressed before (I may not have read all the adverts/posts however).
Ken, What flash did you have prior to the Snap-Flash?
GIAC, APR, EUROBAHN? I take it you like the Snap-Flash best of the ones you tested, and you don't notice a difference in power, just the ease of use of the Snap-Flash, right?
MISpuds
I've only tested GIAC and Snap-Flash, AFAIK APR and EuroBahn don't make anything for the Cayman. Snap-Flash gave me more options than GIAC but there wasn't anything wrong with the GIAC flash. Snap-Flash is easier to do because I can do it myself.
I read through all the discussions, and have only seen reported gains for Snap-Flash based on measurements from K-Man S, also there is a graph showing the gains.
This, I understand, has been done on regular fuel.
K-Man S, you mention that others have measured Snap-Flash performance on fuel with higher octane ratings - could you please point us in the direction of that data?
Thanks a bunch!!
Best,
wurlie
You'll have to ask them, I don't have their data, I'm just going by things that have been said to me in PM or Email. As I said, I haven't tested on 100 octance gas on a dyno, at some point I'll get around to it, but honestly it isn't a high priority to me, I wanted the host of features found in the snap flash, the fact that I get more HP on higher octane fuel is a bonus but if I didn't and my gains were just identical to GIAC or other flashes I would be happy because of the other features I get and the ability to do it myself.
Snap Flash Dyno results 3.8s Cayman and 100 octane fuel
Hi
I had my Cayman 3.8s on the dyno today and herewith the results.
With Snap Flash------------------------380 hp--318 ft.lbs
997s modified map(from Scott)----------358 hp--302 ft.lbs
Increase--------------------------------22 hp---16 ft.lbs
The engine also makes 355hp 300ft.lbs at 7600 rpm.
With this setup I can get wheelspin in first and second gear!
This is the cheapest power available on the market.
Best regards
Herman
Revo also do a switchable map option for high octane race fuel (102 ron). I only ran this fuel once (without map mod) and my car ground to a halt due to the milltek failure. I think I might get the map option and race fuel and dyno to see the results. It ran like a dream up until it conked out when I last tried it. Would be surprised if its got a good 15bhp in it.
So I guess the conclusion is all maps are much the same - unless you can adjust for race fuel which delivers even better results. The bad news is that race fuel costs 2.50GBP per litre. Or $250 per tank here in the UK!!! Go figure!
PCA-Tech, so you are advertising a 26 h.p. gain with the Snap-Flash for the Cayman S with a 3.8 added? Or really a little over 7% increase depending on what h.p. measurement is being used - so should that % be expected in the 3.4?
Very good question. The 3.8s engine would show up to 26HP increase and the 3.8X51 would show up to 29HP increase. The CaymanS 3.4 should show up to a 18hp increase with the 100 octane. The basic increase on these engines falls between 6-8%. Do note that the 3.8 engines were tested with 100 octane, their range would also fall in this percentage between the 93 and 100 octane fuel.
Best,
Scott
Exactly, not too many people are interested in the gains from a 3.8l because less than 100 people on the planet have a Cayman with that config..!
As for the dyno map someone attached, I fail to see the correlated data. It seems the one with less over all toque is better because it has a great torque delta between 2700 ~ 400rpms. Which yields a little bit more "tug" down low for daily driving.
Too bad PAG doesn't design a 2.8l biturbo with minimal boost (
sorta like BMW's 335
) thats higher reving, smaller, lighter and more efficiant... not to mention a tad bit more torque and HP.
Something To Consider
Hi
I believe that a 3.4 Cayman can gain huge power if you consider the following.
997s 3.8 makes 355hp-------94.4 hp/liter
997s Snap flash 381hp------100.3 hp/liter
Cayman 3.4 makes 290hp----85.4 hp/liter
Cayman at 100.3 hp/liter ===340hp==50hp increase
The 3.4 have the same
---throttle body
---injectors
---DME
---many engine components
I believe that to get to 100hp/liter you only need
--header
--catback
--desnork
--airbox mod
--Snap flash
This can be achived anywhere in the world as the key to unlocking the power is the software for the DME.
I contacted GIAC in South Africa and they quoted me $2000 for a flash as the ROW DME's are not the same as in the USA.

Return to dyno with 95 RON fuel
Hi
Filled up with pump gas and went back to the dyno today .
Power 389 hp.
Increase due to software only 31hp.
Cheers

ECU mods
All info I have seen shows minimal dyno improvement and then only above 3,500 rpm, a point where the car is already making power; if anyone is aware of a remapping approach which improves low end / off the line performance, please let me know. Thank you.
Hi Riordaj
There is no sense in making more power below 3500 as this is your cruising area. The DME operates in close loop which optimizes fuel consumption during part throttle at this rpm.
You are also only there for about 2 seconds in first gear during acceleration and then when you change gears your rpm will never fall below 4500rpm if your are driving hard.
Since doing the conversion I have never needed more power below 3500rpm.
Cheers
Herman
