Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Driveshaft outer joint is covered in loads of green grease, I assume that is the grease used inside the joint.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I noticed grease on the inside rear wheel a couple of times when cleaning the car. Finally twigged that something is not right so I had a look underneath. Driveshaft outer joint is covered in loads of green grease, I assume that is the grease used inside the joint. Strange thing is it's not leaking from the gaitor, looks like the metal part has failed. Anybody seen this before? I've booked in hoping it will be covered by warranty but if not how much to replace?

POST 2Original post

Leaky outer CV joints can often be down to heat - no signs of any brake binding/rubbing? If the grease gets to hot it thins, expands and purges out. Happens on some cars during heavy track use too.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Don't think the brakes are binding. Wouldn't you expect the grease to leak out from the rubber gaiter? It looks like it's coming from the metal part.

POST 4Original post

As above, if you've been on track then the PSM tends to over work the rear brakes.
