The cayenne is due to arrive in october but with the way deliveries have been delayed it is quite possible that the car wont arrive until november or december.

Hi my wife is currently looking at part exchanging her macan s for a cayenne e hybrid. Trouble is local dealer in glasgow is giving a terrible deal- car at full price below book for p/x and a extortionate finance rate. They arent really interested in doing any deal. I have also spoken to a few dealerships in england and hopefully they can help a bit more. Does anybody have any recommendations for dealers that arent stealers? Cheers

Sell the car privately and source external finance?

Get a quote from WBaC which will give you some idea about the value of trade in and also put it on Motorway to get trade bids.
I doubt there will be much discount as new cars are so hard to come by but shopping around for finance could save a bit.

a deal? in this day and age? with Porsche? say what?
sell privately or via WBAC, which at face value most people would think them to be the last resort.... far far from it - they are commonly the best course of action as they are jonesing for cars and are offering the best money on many Porsche models (subject to spec/milage of course).

That will be a Sytner dealership then I guess?
You wont get a discount on the new car. My approach when buying a new Porsche is to spec it up and list the options in order of price from highest to lowest and then try and get as many of the low value ones for free as possible.

If you get some of those options for free is that not a discount ?

Sell car privately and then phone as many dealers as you can and see who is keen to deal

Also I believe OPC now offering as much as they were as they are aware many tarde ins coming soon., hence your low ball offer. Sell privately now and buy in October if you can.

Yes but that is how to do it rather than ask "whats the discount"
Anyone that has ever bought a new Porsche knows that they dont respond to the D word

I tried this as we got alot of options free with the macan- 20" rs spyder alloys, metallic paint, privacy glass xenon headlights and alcantara and leather interior. Porsche arent interested in giving anything for free. Made us feel like they were doing us a favour selling us the car!!
i hate to say it but im trying to convince the wife to buy a x5 e hybrid which is a better car. Its a shame as porsche is going to lose a customer. Interestingly bmw is giving us a far better deal

I know this as the word discount is like a swear word to them when i bought the macan before
they ended up giving us at least £4k in options but not a bean this time!

If they can already sell all available new cars at full price, why will it be their loss?

Because they will lose a customer?! And i can guarantee that they wont sell every car at full price. Some people want a better price on the car than just accepting the first price and not negotiating. As i said i know that the car stock is very low but they are offering nothing not even mats or a free tank of fuel

You will lose a fortune on the X5 compared to the Porsche. I guess you are buying on PCP but you are still funding the depreciation. Cheaper finance around than dealer finance. I have just sold a Porsche back to my dealer after 2 years at 7% over Webuyanycar. Even came to house to collect it. Is the Macan a diesel as demand has dropped for these in second hand market
You mention it’s their lose but they can sell everything they make !! I’ve just ordered a car and won’t be delivered till Q3 next year!! Don’t forget many of their customers are running more than one Porsche and they will work on bigger margins than BMW.
Edited by cc3 on Saturday 14th August 07:57
Totally agree, you will lose a fortune on a BMW. I am getting out of a BMW and were it not for the demand for good second hand cars I would have lost so much.

I refuse to buy BMW anymore their policy of big discounts seems good but it ruins secondhand value. Fine if they offer 0% finance to shift metal. Also their designs have gone down the pan big time.
Their cars are no longer the Ultimate Driving Machine as they once said

If the wife wants the Porsche and you get the X5 she will never be happy with it. Been there big mistake ! I’ve always found Porsche Exeter and Mid Sussex good to deal with

What are you basing the book value on? WBAC are pretty accurate, Glasgow offered me a grand less than WBAC for mine recently, and given it’s need a front end resorts I was fine with that.
As for discounts/deals I think you’re onto plums just now given how tight supply is. You would probably get an experience day and some tequipment tat though.
Evans Halshaw also offer some strong £s currently for used cars & Wizzle is another online portal where dealers will bid on cars but they are subject to inspection/reduction of the level of offer if the description/mileage is different (& they all will check the car very carefully).
From my own experience, WBAC do what they say but my comments above apply re condition/mileage. I have a friend who sold his Macan to WBAC as they offered £4k more than the dealer & although his new car was a few months away, the warranty was expiring so it made sense to sell it early.
Some OPCs will trim their margin back if they need to, but it doesn't happen very often!
Cheers for the replies anyway guys it is appreciated. I suppose all cars are subjective but im probably not the best person to grade suvs as they arent really my thing but my wife likes them which is fair enough. I drive a s5 sportback and enjoy the handling and power. The macan handles well for a 4x4 but you always feel its weight and obviously the cayenne is heavier still but with a growing family they are the obvious choice for the wife! I agree that you will lose more on the bmw but as all the road tests say jt is still the class leader. I agree its not the prettiest design but it does look better in the flesh- a bit like the cayenne! Andy
Cheers i have tried wbac and it is showing nearly £4k more than the dealers can offer us. We might try this route instead and go in as cash buyers.
Edit sadly because the car is still under the pcp agreement they cant buy it so will try other avenues!

WBAC absolutely will buy regardless of it being on PCP or not, they just settle the finance and pay you the balance...
Under their FAQ's "Can I sell my car if I have a PCP agreement?
You should be able to settle off a PCP agreement. In fact – when it comes to paying the final amount you should really check with us. Many agreements give you the right to give the car back. Don’t do that until you find out how much it is worth. Customers can sell to us rather than hand the car back as they get the additional cash because the car is worth more than the final payment."

This is correct, shouldn’t be an issue for WBAC

OPC offers for p/x are derisory in my experience. I'm surprised they have any used cars to sell.
When I sold my 718 BGTS to an OPC they agreed to match WBAC a few months ago A good deal as the value of my car had gone up over £10 k since December

Just go onto the Porsche section of VW Finance web address in your agreement. Log into your account and request an early settlement figure. They then give you the bank details of where to send the payment so that you own the car or alternatively Webuyanycar will settle and give you the balance if you sell to them
Sold my 718 to WBAC whilst on PCP with Porsche Finance Services.
Go on the PFS site, request a letter with the settlement figure and teh agreement number. Take this to WBAC along with the car. Simples.

Yep you definitely got a good deal there
Thanks for the advice we might go to wbac then we will wait and see if the dealer offer improves... porsches px offers are terrible. They gave us well below book for a reasonably high spec macan s on a 2018 plate with 30,000 miles. It would be perfect stock for them as well!!
Bit of negotiation and they’ll match the WBAC quote, plus negotiate to 5.9 APR, which they will do as it’s on the Porsche site against a new Cayenne. Just don’t expect any discount on the car given current circumstances.
OPC offered £41k p/x (exact same as WBAC) when I ordered my new car in May. During the 8 weeks from order to collection the value rose by £1k on WBAC. OPC initially pulled a face at my request for a higher p/x. Ended up matching WBAC after my little reminder the local WBAC location was only 1 mile down the road.
Update: My car was for sale at OPC for £48k. Noticed it’s gone from their website this week so I assume it’s sold.

Oracle (where Paul used to work) have also always beaten main dealer finance unless there are silly 0% deals around but do contact Paul for indicative finance quote. In your circumstances, shop around for the finance and do not use Porsche AND pay full list!!
That’s odd I recently sold my macan gts back to a Porsche dealer (Teesside) offered more than wbac at the time although prices were changing daily. I got no discount on my new gts but I didn’t really ask either, was just glad to get one.
I guess there’s little scope for discounts if they can’t get stock, unless it’s a car they can’t shift.
We recently got 11% discount on an new x4 and very strong trade in on a 3 year old 5 series estate, so bmw are obviously still desperate for deals. But I’m well aware the bmw list prices are nonsense

Any idea what rates he is doing?
Sold my Macan S via wizzle for 5k more than the dealer offered, and more than wbac, actually bought by another OPC down south.

I think the rates seem to vary based on usual factors - make, model, deposit etc. He is very user friendly and we have quite a few clients/friends who have used him happily.
I bought my Cayman from OPC Glasgow. At one point I toyed with the idea of P/Xing it for a GT4. They offered me £8k less than another non-OPC dealer had offerd. My response to them was that there was no point continuing the chat as they clearly had no interest in my car. They came back with "well where do you see your car in the market" - to me that another dealer would offer £8k more for it gave them enough of an answer and I walked away. Still have the Cayman and can't see me selling it now as I like it too much

Garbage - WBAC will definitely take it regardless of PCP outstanding
Being a "cash buyer" isn't going to help you either. Not since 1982 anyway.
There are well-documented delays and shortages in new car supply. That's the reason they're not dealing. There will be someone else along after you to buy at full up list. The market has changed.

I do often wonder how OPCs source any stock at all in the current market given their usual derisory offers vs the likes of WBAC offering good money (+whose quotes can easily be obtained & compared.)
I guess some sellers must be so wealthy as not to care, and just roll over whilst taking a bath on what they see as the easiest option selling back to an OPC. Amazing.
Lots of people are unaware of the current trend and believe the scare stories about being chipped back thousands when you get there.
Also the logistics of getting rid and collecting is to much for some people.

Thanks for the garbage comment...
my wife bought her new cayenne e hybrid today from opc glasgow. They took a large chunk off the cayenne and gave her almost as much as we buy any car! Mugs pay full list- i dont!! The cayenne is a good car but not worth the money they are charging for it! I got an excellent price from porsche guildford and that then forced porsche glasgow to match the deal. Im ex car sales so know that there is wiggle room- even when a dealer says there isnt! The car will be on a 71 plate in moonlight blue metallic pan roof privacy glass 20" alloys and full tank of fuel and mats. Wife is happy and thats all that matters!
Thanks to all of you who gave useful advice and constructive criticism!

I wonder if some do it to try and get on the dealers good books in the hope of getting GT product allocations, or whatever. But with some deals I have heard of, there does seem to have been an element of money > sense.

Cheers i have tried wbac and it is showing nearly £4k more than the dealers can offer us. We might try this route instead and go in as cash buyers.
Edit sadly because the car is still under the pcp agreement they cant buy it so will try other avenues!

Are you willing to share the discount you got? A lot of would be owners would like to have that inside line re what is achievable and your background and knowledge you have would be great to share. Thanks.

svracer has left the building....
Of course i got approximately £1500 off the cayenne with the options listed and they came up £2500 on the px price for the macan. It just goes to show how low their initial offer was. And im still in the building thanks!
As for my background i spent over 11 years in sales with volume manufacturers like honda, daihatsu, mazda, skoda and bmw. I also worked for a short time with porsche and prestige motorcycle manufacturers like mv agusta and bmw. Things might have changed a bit as i left the private sector around 10 years ago but i know for a fact that there are still decent discounts if you play the dealers against each other.
Hopefully this gives me some authority to talk about deals available. I have bought most of my cars and motorbikes down south as most of the time scottish dealers dont come close!
For example i bought a used 2018 audi s5 sportback from preston audi in january this year as the scottish dealerships were £1000s more expensive! I eventually got the s5 for £31500 with 9000 miles in black with heated massage seats virtual cockpit and metallic paint. I tried various scottish dealers and the closest in price was £3500 away. That car was also older than mine with higher mileage and less options. It pays to shop around still! If anyone wants any more advice ask and il be more than happy to help. Andy
Blimey, wasn’t expecting that!
Perhaps you can help me? I am ordering (well, trying to) a gen3 Macan GTS. I’m not worried about lead time. How would you go about selecting an opc and getting a deal/discount?

Great you got a deal. Bit like buying the Cayenne for list and selling your trade in to Webuyanycar for the extra £4K they offered. Could you not have taken the £1500 discount and sold to Webuyanycar for the extra £4K.

The Macan GTS will be a lot trickier to get a discount IMO as they will be able to sell way more than they can get.

Still have the Cayman and can't see me selling it now as I like it too much

of course i can as other people here have stated the macan gts is in serious demand. Alot more so than the cayenne e hybrid. You should still be able to get something though. Try porsche guildford as they are one of the biggest porsche dealers in europe. Who is your local dealer? My usual tactic is to phone up 3 dealers and play them off against each other!
Another thing i found is to limit the number of high cost options like 21" wheels for example and include cheaper options like privacy glass and sports exhaust tips etc. My tactic is to get the price to change as low as you can then ask for options and finally full tank of fuel and other sweetners. As they say if you dont ask you dont get!! The finance rate is usually 5.9% apr so there isnt much room in that for the dealer but certainly third party you could chip a % or 2 off that!

The problem with wbac was they saw the macan then offered £1500 less straight away. The car is in good condition but had a few kerb marks on the wheels. I think they normally give you a higher price to hook you then give you a lower offer when they see the car!
Does your car have 15 wheels?

Another issue for us was that wbacs offer was for this week only. The cayenne is due to arrive in october but with the way deliveries have been delayed it is quite possible that the car wont arrive until november or december. My wife would have no other transport and would have to rent a car in the meantime that would be big enough. If you look at car rentals you will also see how expensive that is! So all in all it worked out cheaper trading it back into the opc and my wife could hold onto her px until the new car is ready to be picked up!

Don’t embarrass yourself by asking ! You might get a free GTech paint treatment. I have just ordered one for Q2 will be trading a Macan GTS. It’s not my only Porsche. Just pay list build a good relationship and you will get an allocation when you want it. If you want discounts and big depreciation buy BMW. It’s that simple
Did you try going to a few dealers. I understand building a good relationship but i work hard for my money so wont pay a standard price for a car. If its a gt3rs or a 911 i agree its pretty much impossible to get a discount but the audi porsches as i call them are fair game! Its your money though!

So, you got £1500 less than the trade would have given you for your px, but £1500 off the cayenne.
I wouldn’t exactly describe that as “big chunk” of discount. I would describe that more accurately as “zero” discount.
Terrible initial offer, haggled up to the lofty heights of buying a car at list price.
Maybe you need to read it again.... due to going to several dealers the dealer gave me a better deal by £4000. That is £2500 more for the px and a £1500 discount. They werent initially going to budge. Of course im sure you could do better
But anyway thanks for all the other positive messages! Looking forward to the cayenne arriving

No need to read it again.
The dealer started £4K shy on your px, compared to other trade bids. They came up £2.5k on the px price, and “discounted” the Cayenne by £1.5k.
Net result, px valued correctly compared to other trade bids, and no discount.
No, I couldn’t do better, and give or take a 100 quid here or there, neither can anyone else.

You think you have a good deal that’s all that matters. Most of us reading this know you just got the same deal as every other punter they just made you feel good with a so called tiny bit of discount but in reality they only look at the net cost and know they can make that back and more on your trade in. You are kidding yourself if you think anything else!! Any way the way they packaged the deal worked. I take it you paid cash and didn’t take the ridiculously priced finance that the dealer gets a nice commission on but you pay through the nose ?

He won't be getting any discount on a gts macan, there are waiting lists,
21s are standard on the gts as is the sports exhaust, and all porsches come with a full tank of fuel as mandated by porsche gb.

Hope it works out for you but a bit of advice. Porsche GB doesn’t like the discounting model and will clamp down on dealers if it is broadcast on social media they have a dealer that is undercutting others. I would delete your posts and keep your head down. Porsche dealers are great at taking deposits -when your car turns up might be another matter. Learnt that when I first tried to buy a GT3 years ago. Why give up 3% if you can meet this quarters target defer that one for production till the next quarter etc? Remember your delivery date is not guaranteed

Thank you for sharing the discount you got as well as your background. Nobody said I would get a discount on a Cayman GTS 4.0 but I got 1%. For some that is not worth worrying about but I am with you, a discount is a discount and I cannot conceive buying a car at list price. Others are perhaps more fortunate than me and can afford to accept the ‘no discount available’ that Porsche dealers communicate. For me it is crazy not to ask and quite short sighted. No dealer made me feel embarrassed to ask. All 3 offered something. If you don’t ask you dont get.

No problem its just a shame that people take it as a personal insult when other people try and get a discount or god forbid offer advice. As you say if you dont ask you dont get! Best of luck with the gts.
So far I have been offered the experience (half) day and a tank of fuel, but I read somewhere that both of these should be ‘standard’ offerings?
One Centre has suggested that they might be able to offer the £660 ceramic coating at half-price but I think I’d rather have this done by a professional detailer.
The PEC experience and tank of fuel is part of the standard offering when buying new so you're not getting anything extra there. In my experience having bought several Porsches there are times when discounts are more likely to be available and times when they're not.
When they're not then try for some extras or freebees as they're more likely to agree to these. When they are its often hidden in the part exchange value if there is one and if you manage to get anything at the moment then you have done very well based on the current lack of availability of new cars and, increasing values of used cars and the known reluctance of OPCs openly discounting especially to new customers.
We all know that OPCs are also very good at lowballing the value of potential part exchanges and the margins they like to achieve but sometimes they can step up and pay a reasonable amount if they want rid of the car they are selling or the one they're buying is particularly desirable. But be under no illusions, they will make money out of you one way or the other

I’m not sure anyone takes it as an insult.
It’s more that there are a few posters here, who have purchased many Porsches over the years. Sometimes discounts are available, sometimes discounts are not.
Currently, on most models, they are not.
The figures you provided to show your “significant discount” in fact just proves this to be true.

I guess this is what surprises me most, especially these days with the likes of wbac, Wizzle etc, most people will actually know the real market value of their cars.
Unless taking a bath on all your PXs is what getting a GT allocation is all about...

Agree. Build a long term relationship with an OPC go with the swings and roundabouts, accept that you are not buying a BMW etc with discounts that only devalue the brand and mean big depreciation. I’ve always found my OPC to be very reasonable. Spec the car you desire but if you want the OPC to buy it back for good money you have to listen to advice. Some cars just need certain options and colours

Exactly, there are other options to PXing with the OPC. I sold a 718 Boxster through Wizzle a couple of months ago and achieved a much better price than WBAC were offering and the car went to an OPC. But that doesn't mean I would have got the same price if I was PXing and/or the car I was buying was in short supply. Sometimes it's just being in the right place at the right time.

Can’t be in great condition then? they might chip £100 or so but not that much if it’s as described. Sounds like you have been a touch harsh in your comments on OPC?
It was accurately described to wbac. All im saying is the headline valuation isnt always as high as they will actually give you. Apart from some kerb rash on the wheels the macan was in good condition. My past experiences with car buying sites havent been favourable but i appreciate other people have had good experiences.
I was fair to the opc. I simply stated that in my view they hadnt given me a fair price on the deal which was true. The wife now has ordered the car at a price she was comfortable paying. Cheers

Isn't that their modus operandi? even if a car was factory fresh, they are trained to beat you up on the price...by how much will come down to the tenacity of the seller, but they are trained to pray on the 'its here and now, take it or leave it' pressure.

I guess it’s that the OP is stating some rather unusual information. The “£1500 less straight away” quote is just another. In this market, there is no way WBAC are going to knock £1500 off a quote, for a few curbed alloys.
WBAC also wouldn’t tell a punter that they couldn’t sell to them, if a car was on finance. The OP by his own words, knows his way around the motor trade, even offering to help people achieve the best deal. At the same time, he seems to display very little undertaking of the very basics of buying and selling cars.
That’s where the PH “aggressive support” is coming from

Not from my experience. I’ve sold quite a few cars to WBAC, Arnold Clark etc. Never had more than £50 here or there knocked off for a curbed alloy, or scuff I hadn’t noticed. Certainly at the moment, they want all the good stock they can lay their hands on, and are willing to pay for it.

I sold a car to WBAC a couple of years ago that had 2 kerbed diamond cut alloys, one of them quite badly and they knocked off £110 for those plus £60 for a badly stone chipped bumper and front valance so knocking off £1500 for some road rash alloys does sound rather excessive especially in today's market with cars in short supply.
Maybe the guy I dealt with was having an off day

Sure its not £100's or £1000's, and as I say down to the tenacity of the owner, but, they still beat you up on the price even if a little. it is part of their training.

What a bizarre post.

We all know WBAC and their MO. Offer a price and chip you when you arrive and they inspect.
However, they now include the facility to declare kerb rash, dents etc which minimises the opportunity to gouge their offer
In this case, it appears the "add damage" wasn't done
