Suggestion · Original poster

just had a new stereo fitted professionally but it has triggered a fault in the alarm system, that is it won't set giving one bleep of the horn to indicate a broken contact somewhere (as if a door wasn't shut).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just had a new stereo fitted professionally but it has triggered a fault in the alarm system, that is it won't set giving one bleep of the horn to indicate a broken contact somewhere (as if a door wasn't shut). the fitter spoke to Porsche who had some ideas regarding an earthing issue but all to no avail. they have re-fitted the original stereo and it's fine. any ideas anyone??

POST 2Original post

there is cable from the old stereo loom that requires earthing to the chassis/ sleeve of the new stereo to stop the alarm 'beep' when arming. not sure which one but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to advise.

POST 3Original post

Hi there, The wire is on the left hand side of the chassis for the stereo as you look at it, think it is brown if I remember correctly . Its best to disconnect and tape up , to prevent future problems,. did mine in about five minutes when fitting a Becker Grand Prix . Hope this helps

POST 4Original post

It is brown with a blue tracer, and as touring says, it needs to be isolated, not grounded.
