Is there a way to adjust the convertible lid? My lid in the closed position does not line up properly with a larger gap on the drivers side. My Porsche dealer stated to get the lip in the open position and just bend it into position. This seems and sounds just crazy. Are there adjustments in the linkage? Thanks...
Yes there are, are you doing this yourself? Please look at the diagram... I believe is rod number 4 with the adjustment for that, can look tomorrow for sure. You will have to remove a plastic cover...
The thing is, what happened? how did it get warped to begin with? did something got caught while retracting?
Thanks. Yes, Blackcrow, I am doing this myself. Not sure how it got out of alignment. May have come from the factory that way and the original owner never took care of it.
Purchased the car from a private owner this past May. The car works great and everything else checks out. All but the back lid being out of alignment. When I took it into the dealership I was hoping that it would be care for under warranty. The warranty is good till Feb of 11. But, they stated that sheet metal alignment is only good for the first month of ownership (So they say). They stated that mis-alignment was created by something being place in the rear deck and the closing of the top created the situation. This may have been the case but we will never know. Nothing appears to be bent including the sheet metal and the attaching rods.
Their recommendation for repair...opening the lip partway and push against it to get it back into shape is just out and out bizarre.
Any help would be appreciative. If you need pictures, I can send.
Thanks again, Zip
Now that you got me thinking, if it is physically bent out of shape, and you use the rods to try to adjust for that, wouldn't that be exerting more pressure on the linkage itself and be counter productive?
I would retract the top to the "service position" relase both rods, see how bad is bent out of shape, then make the desicion to bent it back by force if necesary... maybe a budy can help you, or simply putting a rubber mallet at the apex of the curvature and use other side of the cover by "pushing" down to make get it back into shape...
food for thought, I get of early tomorrow, I'll take a look at it and post back...
Thanks. I have carefully "eyeballed" the lid to determine if it is out of shape. With sheet metal you can normally tell. Nothing seems to be bent. The rods and linkage appears fine. But, it is harder to determine because of the configurations. Zip
I was changing the air filter yesterday and had to put the soft top in service position, how much is the lid out of shape? ex. half inch? more, less... there are two adjustable stoppers for the lid, have you tried adjusting these?
That happens to me when I break a rod. There are 2 rods on either side of the rear top. Check to see if they are broken.
Thanks...the misalignment is on the drivers side and it is with the rear quarter panel. The passenger side is tighter, perhaps too tight and a contributor to the situation. Looking more for the horizontal movement as oppose to up and down.
Blackcrow...where are the adjustments located. Thanks...
