Suggestion

The fans control units are set to run if there is any fault (real or imagined) in the system on the theory that it is better to err on the side of running the fans rather than let the car overheat.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Well, when I start up the car it smells like straight up gas. If the car has been sitting for an hour or so, every start up will smell like gasoline. I brought it to the dealer and they said they couldn't reproduce the smell. He said he checked everything and it seemed to be in good working order. I've also noticed grease streaks on my window, and when i automatic mode (I have PDK), it acts very strangely and will rev really high before it shifts, but it won't be delivering the power. Almost like it's slipping.

POST 2Original post

Can't help with the other two issues, but grease streaks on the windows are very common with the 997/987 cars it seems. It's worse if the windows are wet. I think someone here even named their stain because it kept returning.

POST 3Original post

The streaks aren't a big deal. The other issues are alarming. Anyone else with a Spyder? The fan runs CONSTANTLY on my car. It's annoying. Sometimes the fan turns on after the car is completely shut off with the keys out of it because the engine gets so hot.

POST 4Original post

No such issues with mine, everything is working just fine.

POST 5Original post

Fan is going almost the whole time I drive the car, every time.

POST 6Original post

If you smell raw gas on startup I would go to (another) dealer. There could be a small leak in the injection system. The fans control units are set to run if there is any fault (real or imagined) in the system on the theory that it is better to err on the side of running the fans rather than let the car overheat. Once again, you will have to go to (another) dealer. Have you checked your coolant level?

POST 8Original post

My fan runs alot also but not anything like my GT3, which always was running. So the spyder seems very normal. I have about 3000miles on my spyder and on occasion the PDK seems to get confused, usually in 1st and second gear. It may suddenly rev like the clutch is slipping at slow speeds when it is trying to decide which gear to pick. I dont know if that is normal or not, not been back to the dealer yet. It is also noisy and clanks at slow speed when shifting into 1st gear. The dealer told me this is normal. I have been a dedicated manual transmission advocate my whole life but the PDK has made me a believer! I will never go back! I love the little split second pop at high rpm between the shifts and the incredible smoothness of the paddle shifters,a manuel cant beat it for thrills!

POST 9Original post

Hi Phile i have similiar problems not sure if it's normal or not. 1) the fan is on very often even after the engine is off and the key is removed. this also happen to my Mazda SUV but not the fan don't turn on close as much. Porsche say this is normal but thats what they always say 2) i also notice black smoke and has a gas smell right after i turn on the ignition for a few seconds. this i worry more. i'm afraid i need an oil change due to dirty oil but i haven't mention this to the porsche mechanic yet. 3) when i turn off the engine i feel the engine drop very hard. wonder if this is normal since i never driven a porsche before the spyder.

POST 10Original post

Fan goes on a little more than my Cayman but everything else is normal.
