Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 6Original post

me. My car did not have warranty. Someone said if you have warranty, it's less.

POST 7Original post

WTF? Really how much is it? and what's included? I have the warranty but is there a DIY?

POST 8Original post

I thought it was about $900-$1000 bucks for the 30k service, more if your car is an 01 or earlier. Pretty cheap for a car this price.

POST 9Original post

Yellow - less than what's been quoted. It's more than just an oil and filter change (what's done at the 15K service) and includes spark plugs among other parts. Go to a Porsche specialty shop. I don't know if Arling does the service on the cars, but I've gotten good service at Speed Gallery in Studio City. Talk to Allan. -Bobby

POST 10Original post

Depending on the year of the car and type, the 30K service may or may not specify plugs. If you have a 2001 or later 996 the plug change interval is 60K, not 30K. If the car is on a 2 year anniversary, then it is advised to replace the brake fluid as well. The 30K service is essentially the 15K service (which is oil change and pollen filter) plus the addition of the air filter change. There are also the normal number of inspections to see if your car still has tires, doors, a horn etc. Those checklists can be found here. If your CEL lamp is not lit, then there is nothing wrong with your engine. Stevens Creek Porsche in San Jose changes $399 for the 30K service. Which is about right for type of operation. (2 hours labor + parts) The net cost of parts and oil is about$135, and the actual time involved is about 90 minutes if you are real slow. DIY or having an independent shop perform this maintenance will not impact your warranty. This type of maintenance is a real money maker for a dealership, and they usually charge according to how much they can get away with, and your GQ (Gullibility Quotient. The higher it is, the more you pay). If you are not capable of DIY an oil and filter change, then by all means do not spend more than $400 to have someone else do it for you.
