Drove my 07 CS with bi-xenons for the first time at night and was underwhelmed with the low beams. Felt I was overdriving them at 65 on the highway, and most were passing me. When I put the high beams on as an experiment, few oncoming cars flashed at me. I see in the manual that aiming happens automatically, or the dealer can adjust, but is this something I can do? I expected to have really great lights but that's not the case, perhaps they are aimed too low. I know xenons have abrupt cutoff ( and the low beams certainly do ) but it just seems too short to drive above about 60. Anyone else experience this?
Something isn't right.
I believe the lights recalibrate every time you start them. Stand in front of your car and have someone turn them on. You should see the internal assembly dip and return to level. Make sure you see the same range of motion on both sides.
Yes, something is off. My xenons are very bright. My brother was riding with me one night and commented that they were the best vision he had ever experienced in a car at night. I would have yours checked. They should adjust automatically at start up.
Defenetely something wrong with your lights. I have the Bi-xenon lights on my CS and it is like I have been driving blind all my life and didn't know it till I got this car. Turn the high beams on and its like driving in daylight. Have them checked.
Thanks-Will ask my independent if he can look at them- dealer is at least 6 hrs.
Pete et al,
I think the way to do this test it to have the ignition off, then turn the lights on low beam, then turn the ignition to on. Then the lights will calibrate and you can actually see the beams dip and center themselves.
To the OP, I only notice the effect that you describe when approaching the bottom of a hill. The car (and by extension the lights) are pointed down, but the road is going up and there is not much light on it. Does this happen to anyone else?
Yeah, it's the slope of the hill and I do not think there is anything to be done about that if it is a low beam situation. But the OP's problem seems worse than that.
Had my second night driving experience last night- pretty much a repeat of first impression. Low beams cut off way too close IMHO. and highs are fair to good but certainly not impressive. Checked for the automatic levelling and that seems to be fine...in searching the web found one reference to bulbs dimming with age and needing replaced. Has anyone done this and noticed improvement? This is an "07 CS with 21K. These lights just don't feel safe or inspire confidence, in fact the lights on my "04 Toyota Tacoma are better, and they're just regular lights.
Unfortunately I can't provide a better answer than what's been written above but can reinforce the view that there seems to be something wrong. The xenons on my 07 CS work very well. At risk of stretching for something, perhaps check the bulbs to see if they're the correct spec.
Something doesn't seem entirely right here. I can check with our techs if you like?
Graeme
Yes please I would like any opinions on what to do with these lights.
Xenons in my 07 CS and same experience here! And they don't go through the auto-leveling check sequence.
