Suggestion

If it is then it is normal for a engine to use more oil in its break-in period, so I would not be overly concerned especially as I guess you did not check if it was full when you got the car....however these comments are based on a gradual drop in oil, which you have no clue if it did or not.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Yesterday when I was driving up from San Diego to LA in my Cayman S, the check oil level warning light popped up. I was surprised that after only 6500 miles, I'm already low in oil. Is this normal? I dont drive this car hard at all and my older Boxster which was more of a daily driver has been able to get to 20000 miles between oil changes. Also, it's Labor Day and not a lot of places are open to get oiled topped off. Any issues with driving the car back to SD (120 miles) with the low oil level? Im assuming there's a bit of a buffer between the time the warning light goes on and when its absolutely critical to add more oil.

POST 2Original post

i would add oil and have it serviced when i got home

POST 3Original post

I'm taking it the car is new and has only got 6.5k on it? If it is then it is normal for a engine to use more oil in its break-in period, so I would not be overly concerned especially as I guess you did not check if it was full when you got the car....however these comments are based on a gradual drop in oil, which you have no clue if it did or not. I would not drive with it on the minimum level though because the reality seems to be that you have not checked the level at regular intervals and therefore you cannot tell how rapidly that level has gone down. I would make sure you top it up before driving any siginficant distance and then monitor it a bit closer and see what happens.

Agree with Dunebasher. Suggest a thorough read of your owner's manual and more careful monitoring of all fluid levels.
