POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive been thinking of giving my 987 Cayman S a face lift to a 991 GT3... I know it can be done. Examples: ( Owner https://www.instagram.com/digitalfckyou/?hl=en ) Here are some images of what my Cayman might look like: (i lowered the car in this one) Before i do any research to locate this front bumper, I wanted to see what you guys thought? Should i go for it or keep my Cayman stock?

POST 2Original post

TBH I am not keen on the massive rear wing on the black one, but the front bumper is not bad. http://www.engineswapdepot.com/?p=444

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 150918

Yeah im not a fan of the wing either... Thanks for the link but the red car has new 997 fenders/head lights. The bumper im looking at doesnt need new fenders or headlights.

POST 5Original post

i like stock - but I think its your car.....so do as you please.   Any money spent on it will usually have a negative return.

POST 6Original post

Haha, I actually like the wing I have always thought the Cayman needs some sort of wing on the back to balance it out. Personally, the first thing to do to make a Cayman look better is lowering with nice full rims, like the car in the first pic. That would be my first move (missing my CS.... ).

POST 7Original post

I too think a Cayman needs a wing, yet some guys go over the top with the GT3 wings being fitted.. Personal choice mate. If ya want to modify a Cayman and it makes you happy, theres no problem, just do it. Yes, like all Porsche's that are modified in some way may have an effect on value, yet if I owned a Cayman, a wing would be first on my list of mods

Okay so ive found a company that makes this conversion bumper. Im not really waiting for anything, just wanted to hear everyone's five cents worth while i was looking for the bumper. HAHA and i know i wont be getting any return once i mod my Cayman. I do like it stock as well but just wanted it to be different to the rest. HA Jeff... are you trying to stir something about wings now... But you are right it would look good with something on the rear. Im thinking about just fitting the base portion that the huge wings come with. Reminds me of a ducktail Im way ahead of you there... already been speaking with east coast suspension about getting some lowering springs for my PASM suspension. As for rims i love the ones on the car now. It is a shame you dont have the Cayman anymore But now your building a kick ass RSR Yeah if i can find a wing that is somewhat like the new GT4 i would be happy but everything on the market now is just asking for me to get pulled over and defected. Thanks for your support Lee.

POST 9Original post

My 2c. It will look hot with the mods you are talking about and value/shmalue!

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 150945

That wing looks good. Balances out nicely. I do like the bigger wings (probably the boy racer in me still trying to get out), but I don't think I would have ever put one on my car. That on the other hand is something I would look at.

POST 11Original post

Is it just me or does the GT3 front look like it doesn't quite fit right? Cant say I'm a fan, but if your feeling it then so be it.

POST 12Original post

It doesnt look balanced anymore with the GT3 front. The cayman is quite round and soft, the GT3 angled and edgy. By changing the front, the rear and side skits are laking. I think this could be pulled off, but only if you want with a wide body kit to finish it off. Also, that rear duck tail looks amazing.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151035

Yeah i was thinking going all out with a wide body but it is a bit too much for my liking.

POST 14Original post

That front bar looks sweet. I agree it needs different side skirts to look well integrated, though.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151058

Thanks Tit, ill start to look into getting some side skirts.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 151060

i wonder if something simple like this...

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151062

Thanks Tit, That looks great Now i have to find one for a 987, wonder if that 370Z skirt would fit on the Cayman...

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 151064

Dont need to get that funky.  Mock up a flat piece with some wood for fitment and shape. Screw it on to test.  Then once you work it out or fab them with CF or plastic. Like this. Not permanent or expensive.. http://www.optimaforums.com/forum/7-optima-appearance-body-modifications/75025-diy-cf-side-skirt-extensions.html#/forumsite/20671/topics/75025?page=1 Heres another thread. Most of these are ugly IMO.... http://www.planet-9.com/987-cayman-and-boxster-modifications/32197-show-me-your-side-skirts.html

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151065

Thanks again Tit, Yeah i dont like the side skirts that are made for the Cayman's either. I might try and find someone that can fab one or just do it myself.

POST 20Original post

I'm not a fan of that front bar. Too busy or something but I like that rear wing. Enjoy it whatever you decide.

POST 21Original post

I think it would work better with a 997.1 GT3 front bumper. A bit rounder than the angular 991 bumper and that suits the 986 styling a little better IMO.

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151075

Thats what i was thinking of doing but when i saw the bumpers available i got put off, the 997 GT3 bumper doesn't as good without having the 997 fenders and head lights. Here is the bumper with Cayman fenders/head lights: And here is one with the complete 997 conversion: Now ive found another place that is working on a direct bolt on GT4 bumper for the 987. After some quick Photoshopping this is what it might look like:

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 151037

To me, I wouldn't go try to dress it up like replica of another car as often it just looks tacky. Embrace the fact that it is already a very nice looking Porsche and enhance it a bit. Something like the lip on this car added to the standard bar and some of the basic flat skirts is perfect. Don't need to go the wide body.

POST 24Original post

Now, ignoring the baller stance... here's some skirt and bumper ideas... http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/05/a-kevlar-wearing-porsche-cayman-s/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2015/04/against-the-grain-a-juiced-cayman-s/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/04/behind-closed-doors-milestone71/

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151169

HAHA no hella stance for me thanks. I am planing a 35mm drop though. Yeah i was looking at mix and matching some of these kits and others, i still might but the 991 GT3 bumper on a Cayman just caught my eye. Otherwise i was thinking of getting the same front splitters from the red Cayman or this (better view of the black Cayamn's splitter) : http://sharkwerks.com/porsche/987-cayman-and-boxster/70-sharkwerks-project-2006-cayman-s-rs350.html

POST 26 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 151093, 151169

Jeff i was going to originally get these bumper splitters below but turns out the company that made them arent around anymore Im still thinking about which bumper to go for... I found some really nice side skirts like the ones you showed me Tit. But it turns out its the same company that made the front splitters one the red car above. But from the looks of it. It was made like you said Tit mocked up from wood then made from CF. http://www.planet-9.com/reviews/cayman-cosmetic-mods/p308-motor-lux-side-skirts.html

POST 27Original post

Painting the driving light surrounds black is effective...

POST 28Original post

I just had a look on eBay and they are quite a few options in there for wings splitters side scoop covers etc.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 151285

Yeah ive seen all the ebay kits. most of them are knock offs of Techart kits or some are just plan RICE...

POST 30Original post

gettydesign has released a front gt4 bumper for the 987. http://www.gettydesign.com/cayman_coachwork.php#987gt4frontbumper not sure how it looks with the car though, but i imagine it would look similar to this one you posted earlier in the thread (without the driving lights). i thinkit looks pretty well matched and kind of works with the smoothness of the original caymans lines. im also in two minds if I should go the wing route as well hehe...

POST 31 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 172443, 987

Yeah Thanks, That was the company i was talking to earlier that was going to manufacture this bumper. I was going to order this and their wing base, but by the time they finished their prototype of the bumper i had bought another car... so my Cayman will have to stay stock for now. Or i might just get the wing base Would love to see what you do to yours... post some pics if you do anything..

POST 32Original post

Since you have asked..  I would say leave the body kits and phat wings for the JDM side of town.  You own a Porsche not an s2000 / Zed But it's your car so do what makes you the happiest, not anyone else

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 172506

Cheers qstoria, Clearly you haven't read the complete thread because ive mentioned i wouldn't like a wide bodykit, big wing and all that other rice on my Cayman S. Like i said above only the wing "base" which is a lot like the 911 duck tail and the front was between a Porsche GT3, GT4 bumper or a simple skirt/lip. Nothing JDM... Like you said it is my car, at the time i started this thread i was simply asking which front bumper would work best with the caymans lines.

POST 34Original post

Quotes source post: 172510

Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers.  Maybe I should have been more specific and simply quoted the final question of your original post and that was whether or not you should get a kit etc or keep it stock?  Yeah I went and chucked a bit of JDM chat in there just for the hell of it, perhaps I got carried away by some of the photos.  Whoops Anyway.. My answer / opinion would have been something like 'hey you have an great car stock, keep it that way! But, having said that now, the ducktail looks good too... All the best mate

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 172546

No worries mate! no feathers were ruffled. I understand why you might have been carried away by the pics, most of the pictures on this thread where a little too modified. I only used them to reference a few parts i would have done, like the duck tail or just the GT3 bumper from the first picture. As for my Cayman its going to stay stock for a awhile now... Till i finally decide to purchase the duck tail All the best to you too

POST 36Original post

I think you should stay stock, maybe add the GT4 rear wing.  Thats my 2 cents.

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 187295

Yeah ive scrapped the face lifting ideas, Still want a ducktail and to lower it a bit. Here are some pics from this weekends drive.

POST 38Original post

Its a good looking car. I like the GT4 bumper on the front personally, with a rear wing to balance it out at the back.

POST 39Original post

A little bit lower will make a world of difference to the look. Standard Caymans all look a bit too high to me.

POST 40Original post

I really like the idea. This vid shows a fairly nice widebody + 991 GT3 front end. Looks a lot better when it's all moving.

POST 41 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 201587

Thats exactly what i was planning... Thats the black car that i posted earlier on this thread

POST 42Original post

Ahh yes of course.. lots of work based on what he says on the video.

POST 43Original post

There was a 987 with 997 GT3 front end in the carpark at Porsche Experience Centre in Atlanta and it looked shit hot. I really dig it. Needs a wing to complete the look though.

POST 44Original post

Stock is oh so boring.  Don't be dissuaded.  At least lower it, get your wheel offsets right with spacers, and the exhaust note.  Minimum.  As MFX says, lowering cures all sorts of ills and you may not feel you need a front bar with a bit of low & poke.  If it looks good and sounds good it is good, if your start point is a Cayman.  Have not read whole thread so sorry if OT.

POST 45 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 201905

Well ive already done the exhaust system. Thinking of getting lowering springs soon but pretty hard as my Cayman S has PASM, when i get it lowered ill also get some 15mm spacers for the rear wheels to make it flush with the fender.
