Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Morning all, bit of advice if you would on price. A good friend of mine has been looking for a 996 Turbo for a while and has found the below- 2002/02 996 Turbo Tip 38,000 miles Dark blue Met Grey trim PCM2 Full history Mint condition 3 owners But it has 997 Turbo alloys !? He can buy the car for £26k, is this a cheap car ?? The seller is telling him it's got an BHP upgrade, how would he find out if it's an X50 ?? I do have the reg ?? Thanks for you advise. (and no I am not selling the GT3 :hand

POST 2Original post

Potentially a very good deall!!! That sounds very cheap to me! The prices vary so much on these cars so I would suggest he gets the car inspected before purchase - this way he will find out what costs if any he could be in for. When I bought my turbo last December there were a few on the market but I chose one with a Porsche warranty for piece of mind - I have read on the forum that you can spend thousands of pounds on various items which brings the price to a more realistic 30k. If the car is as described I would say it is a bargain!!!!! Hpe the above helps.

POST 3Original post

It should have X50 on the sticker under the bonnet if it is an X50. If you have the VIN I could look it up for you. X50 or not, it is cheap.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

He is going to look at it again this afternoon. Thanks for the advise so far, will let you know how he gets on.

POST 5Original post

The 997 wheels would put me off......my money is that they're replicas and not the real deal. These 19" replicas will increase unsprung weights and have a noticeable effect on the handling of a car that was designed to run optimally on 18" lightweight alloys. I'm also guessing that if these are replicas, then they are cast and will be manufactured from sub-standard materials. Ask your friend to ask for the originals. Originals are worth about £3k with tyres. Other than that it's one cheap car worth a Peter Morgan (or similar) check. ~ Maxie

POST 6Original post

for that mileage thats a good price. There's one in Autocar this week featured in an article about how affordable they are; 54k miles 02 reg 25k and that was I guess the cheapest they could find. Usual caveats history, servicing, not cat d etc. Otherwise go for it...good colour combo too.

POST 7Original post

One other thing Dan, PCM2 didn't come out until the 2003MY cars so it must be at least a 52 reg for it to have PCM2. I think it's PCM 1.0 in that example you've posted? ~ Maxie

POST 8Original post

No affiliation, but this looks sensibly priced to me :?: http://PISTONHEADS.CO.UK/SALES/2289941.HTM

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Maxie, it's on a private plate so could be a 2002/52 ?

POST 10Original post

Looks cheap to me........if it all checks out could be a good buy.
