Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys, Does anyone out there know how to remedy a faulty 996 headlight? The nearside unit shines very dimly so I replaced the bulb, but the brightness is just the same. I should mention that it had been remedied by an OPC some time back (before my ownership). I assume it is something to do with the connectors between the unit and the car, but short of spending hourly rates again to get it sorted I wonder if there is any other procedure you could recommend? Many thanks! H

POST 2Original post

Try to clean the contacts (electrical cleaner etc) on both headlamp and wing socket and ascertain if the plug and socket are mating properly. Check the headlamp pins are straight. Alternatively, the connector in the wing could be at fault. They can become dirty or defective (check the socket hasn't come loose/mounting bracket broken).

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks mate will try this when I get over this accursed flu. I noticed inside there was a white connector that looks as if it should have been connected to something - is this the earth, or the problem? If yr advice doesn't work what would the next step be?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Holy crap.. you did that?! I am impressed to say the least..! :thumb:

POST 6Original post

There's not much to it. I just pulled the lever, and the bonnet opened.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

..and the bumper fell off, and the headlights fell out whilst you were about it.. I may have to borrow your Hayes manual. :thumb:

POST 8Original post

I think you opened the front page and the "N" dropped off.

:floor: classic.. How helpful is it seriously? As helpful as Team America? :floor:

Unfortunately, they don't publish one for later 911s (including 996).
