Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If the drivers side ram is okay I wouldn't touch this ram at all if it was me (ie disconnect the banjo bolts), instead use it as a reference for checking positioning, extension, retraction against the other/repaired ram should you decide to have a play and try and fix it yourself.
Leading evidence: 'Check positioning, extension, retraction against the other/' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check positioning, extension, retraction against the other/' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. It's still all pretty fresh in my mind so if you have any questions regarding my repair please don't hesitate to ask.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Is there something that I can purchase that will just replace the upper (moving) part of the spoiler that will not cost more than the nation debt of Ireland??
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi Chaps....
After over a year of trouble free motoring (mainly due to little use!), my 996 TT has developed a fault with the rear spoiler.
The drivers side will raise but the passenger side will not, leaving a very amusing sight for the peasants following me!
Not thinking (stupidly!) that this would ever be an issue, I now understand that this is a 'common' problem?
What are my options under the following choices?
1. Cheapest fix to get it working again
2. Some kind of GT2 'look' spoiler that runs with the hydraulics disabled (without replacing the whole engine cover).
Is there something that I can purchase that will just replace the upper (moving) part of the spoiler that will not cost more than the nation debt of Ireland??
Alternatively, what is the cost of the Ram that has obviously failed? Can they be refurbished? etc etc.
Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if there are numerous threads on the topic but I couldnt find anything off here using the search function.
For information, my OPC warranty has just expired and I decided not to renew it as I wasnt going to use the car over the winter but thought I'd take it for a blast today.
And is there a fuse I can remove to temporarily disable it?
Kind Regards,
Ian Howells
Mine failed and I had to have the whole unit replaced. Mind you it was completely sh@gged. Hydraulic fluid leaking so that caused parts to break up. My understanding is that you have to buy the whole thing. Cost me approx £1k but covered by my non Porsche Warranty. There was a topic on here where someone had done a handy repair on their existing unit.
Cheers Sarfend,
I will have a look for that link or if anybody can find quicker it can they paste it up please?
Personally I'd would rather gouge out my own eyeballs than part with a grand to get it working again. Can't believe how crap it is that it has failed. I mean there are 18 year old Voilkswagens going around with retractable rear spoilers - I can't believe a £100k supercar has such a flimsy mechanism.
I will be inclined to try and fix it.
The annoying thing is, I mentioned it to my OPC when it went in for its id also service recently as it had just started to do it and they couldnt find anything wrong with it yet it did it on the way home from the garage!!
It was under warranty then as well. Arggghhh!!!!
I'd also be interested in replacing the spoiler with something else.
Any ideas anyone?
Hi Ian,
It's still all pretty fresh in my mind so if you have any questions regarding my repair please don't hesitate to ask.
One thing to keep in mind is that both rams are completely independent of each other and it's a pretty basic hydralic system. If the drivers side ram is okay I wouldn't touch this ram at all if it was me (ie disconnect the banjo bolts), instead use it as a reference for checking positioning, extension, retraction against the other/repaired ram should you decide to have a play and try and fix it yourself.
Just remember my repair related directly to a leaking ram, not a failure of the screw ram system for the plunger, or something else.
One point of note thoe, just checked my ram over the weekend and although it's still looking and working great with just a hint of moisture at the base of the ram.
Cheers

Mine played up a few times last year and I sprayed silicone onto the rams (with the spoiler up) thinking it was a build up of road grime around the top O rings.
Had to do this a few times and it has been fine ever since - worth a try I'd say
Cheers
Simon
