Ill check the service history but Im pretty sure the car is on its original MAF (its 60k and a 2001 car).
Leading evidence: 'Check service history' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check service history' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

As GT4 says, a diagnostic check would tell you for sure.

If you need to clean the MAF you are just delaying the inevitable change, also check the coil packs and fuel pressure regulator valve all relatively inexpensive consumables, that may cause a flat spot or missfire

I only cleaned the MAF to try and see if that resolved the issue.

Ask an OPC (or other PST2/PIWIS owner) to run a diagnostics on MAF to see if it needs replacing (you can't keep cleaning it).

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, Ive mentioned this once or twice in the past but never decisively tried to resolve it.
My car occasionally hesitates on full throttle at around 4000rpm. This only happens now and again but has been happening since i got the car 18 months ago. Car has now got 60k miles and had 44k when bought.
It may be subjective but the car does feel quicker some days more than others. Felt very quick indeed today but less so last Saturday for example. New dvs and a couple of full MAF cleans hasnt made any difference.
Any suggestions what this could be? As stated above there is no real pattern to it and its only now and again it happens. Variocam? MAF? Fuel pump?
Since swapping to Gert's exhaust a couple of months back (100 cel cats) I can also sometimes get the ABS/PSE fail error messages on full acceleration only. I dont know if that is relevant or just something that happens with freer cats.
All suggestions welcome!
Ask an OPC (or other PST2/PIWIS owner) to run a diagnostics on MAF to see if it needs replacing (you can't keep cleaning it).
That diagnostic should pick up if any other sensors are awry as well.
Had a similar issue...it was a FUEL SUPPLY ISSUE!! U need a new fuel filter, fuel pump, in tank fuel line or any combination of these. Get it done and watch the car feel like a new car!!
Thanks guys - it could of course be both MAF and fuel supply issue.
Would a MAF upgrade be worthwhile in any event? Ill check the service history but Im pretty sure the car is on its original MAF (its 60k and a 2001 car).
On the FUEL issue - how would I get a diagnosis on this? Yaz, what did you end up getting replaced? Pricy?

I'd focus on the MAF first... they can run some checks but I'm not sure if this will always pick up an issue. I got a new MAF out the US off eBay and it was considerably less than via the OPC... think it cost me like $250 USD including freight.
Have ordered as new MAF as close examination suggests its pretty tired looking.
Had a 150 mile round trip today and more strangeness. Had a stammer at 4000 rpm of the type described above. The car then on a later hard acceleration gave the abs/psm warning which I cleared by switching off and on.
The car then felt smoother and quicker and gave no problems. In fact it flew. I noticed it spiked on boost to 1.2 bar! Never seen this before but car felt very quick generally. Highest I've previously seen was 0.7 when the car was totally standard then 0.8 or 0.9 with Gert's exhaust, 100 cell cats fitted and Forge DVs.
There does seem to be inconsistency in how the boost is being delivered to the car. Ill be fitting the new MAF as soon as it arrives and post on the outcome.
In the interval does this higher spiking boost suggest any other diagnosis?
