Suggestion

I don't think its necessary to go as high the CTek range - the XS3600 would be enough - that's what I use on my Boxster's 80Ah battery.

And they are designed for continuous use - they don't get particularly hot but I wouldn't leave it on a pile of leaves!

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey folks, Unfortunately having to head back to work soon which means il be away for 3months. I have just moved house and its not handy for the old man to pop round and give the 996 a blast each week. Therfore i was wondering if anyone had any advice on which charger to buy and also how safe are they to be left in for weeks on end, i can live with a flat battery but i dont wont to come home to a burnt down house!!! I have read good things about the ctek xs 7000. Cheers folks JC

I find this Halfords Maintenance charger to be excellent value for money and it can be left connected for long periods of time! http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/..._productId_190498_langId_-1_categoryId_165629

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the link, that seems a good buy at that price.

POST 6Original post

POST 7Original post

Is there an echo? Must be the time of year when thoughts turn to long. cold nights tucked up with little use. (or for mine 3 or 4 months of hibernation). See here for some buying info: http://911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=57272

POST 8Original post

 Got caught last year with my Tiv, bad winter and little use = dead battery. The Ctek does exactly what it says on the tin and is a top product, this year hoping for good weather and I've got a 4x4 now so should be fine :floor:

POST 9Original post

Costco were selling C-Tek chargers cheap, the Accumate is similar too. They are all you need to keep your battery in good order.

POST 10Original post

CTEK XS3600 12v Car Battery Charger Conditioner great piece of kit :thumb:

POST 11Original post

Has anyone mentioned that the CTEK XS3600 12v Car Battery Charger Conditioner might be what you are looking for? If you are leaving it on its wheels, think about raising the tyre pressures (to about 50psi IIRC) to avoid flat spots. And if you wash it before you put it away, make sure you drive it a bit and brake the disks dry. Otherwise you won't have any disks to come back to.

POST 12Original post

Richard, you'll know this, are the brake-discs made by FIAT? Or just developed by the same euphemistically named "Einnahmen schutz abteilung" ("Revenue Protection Unit") that took the perfect finished 996 prototype and productionised to guarantee future revenue streams. I know they developed the RMS, front exposed rads, light switch dial and hydrophobic coil-packs, to name a few.

POST 13Original post

I thought it might be Lancia. I had a Fulvia Rallye S once. It was dark blue, but if you stood next to it you could watch it turning brown. Wonderful engine though - a real screamer.

POST 14Original post

Its in the nature of brake discs that they rust easily. This is because they are made from cast iron and have a high carbon content. This gives them a high co efficient of friction and so good stopping power. The higher the carbon content the more prone to rusting they will also be. If you made brake discs from Stainless Steel, you would have zero corrosion problems but unfortunately Stainless Steel has a lower co efficient of friction than cast iron.
