I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car started to feel weird. At highway speeds, the car felt a little wobbly and the steering somewhat disconnected and sloppy.
At slower speeds, it is less noticable, but still there when doing tiny slaloms within my lane.
I have full warranty and decided to flat bed the car to the dealership and the advisor agreed, but I am very confused what the problem might be.
Has anyone every experienced anything like this or have any idea what it could be.
No weird sounds, it's just that the steering and stability feel weird for no apparent reason.
Thanks,
Ken
low tire pressure, wheel out of balance, bent rim, out of alignment...
+1
could be a balance issue with one of your tires.
All the above plus: Does the car have PASM? Could some misguided electrons be playing havok with the suspension???
If none of the above you may have a failed steering rack.
You guys have me a little worried. My car just ran out of warranty and I just experienced something similar. BUT, I just had all 4 wheels aligned and balanced, just checked my tire pressure. It still corners well; it just felt a little weird, like drifty going straight. I just moved to a new city and I'm taking it as I'm not used to the roads in this area and it's undulations in the asphalt that are moving the car side to side, kind of like a smooth rut. Or at least that's what I hope it is.
Depending on the condition of the road, it'll definitely make the car feel as if it's pulling to one side. For example, I have a stretch of local road here that when pulling up to the light, I can let go of the steering wheel and the ruts will pull the wheel a full quarter turn to the right by itself. Next thing you know, you're halfway in the next lane.
It goes on like this for a few miles, the wheel will almost yank itself out of your hands if you go too fast (35 MPH or above).
Kinda annoying then you're trying to text and drink a cup of coffee at the same time!
Do you use wheel spacers?
My 2 cents worth:
Over inflated front tires.
I don't know about the original poster, but I don't. I have 19" wheels that won't allow the spacers.
Agree, the car hates high front pressure. I stick to 31f/37r cold, never let it get above 32 cold.
My guess: thrown balancing weight...
Ken, please report the outcome....
