Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

I checked the existing threads, but couldn't find anything on this one, minor issue. Could the swapping of the L front with the R front wheel cause the TPMS system to go all weird? It was working just fine and I got the wheels balanced. I don't think they made sure the wheels were put back on the original sides, but ever since I keep getting low pressure messages (but the pressures are OK) and then it clears, only to return as soon as I turn the engine off, then restart. Thanks for ideas. Phil

POST 2Original post

If you have switched wheel positions you may want to go through the calibration mode. This happened to me once.

POST 3Original post

The sensors in each wheel send a wheel id to a transmiter or computer depending on year. It knows when you switch and then you must reset the computer to recognize the new position. Also if you change wheel size like from summer to winter wheels.

POST 4Original post

+1 The system has to relearn which wheel is mounted on which corner of the car. Use the dash stalk to go invoke the recalibration (essentially tell it you have new tires). Also, if you have the PCM NAV system, you should tell it you have new tires as well.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for the replies. I had to go through a number of recalibration cycles, but it seems that the wheel swap has finally passed through the system. I read the White paper on TPMS available here at Planet9 and it seems as if the system stores a set of data, and each recalibration adds a new element to the set, and deletes the oldest. It averages values from the stored set, so I had to do about 4 resets before it finally knows where the wheels are now. Anyway, whatever the system, it appears to be working this morning, and only time will tell. But perseverance seems to have paid off. Phil
