Ideally i would like to include my son on the policy, he is 25, been driving since he was 17, never had an accident and has a clean licence but my normal insurers are saying they will not insure anyone under 30.

I’ve just renewed with Manning on my 981 Spyder at around £500 - small increase negated by being able to exclude track days now which I don’t need.

I've previously used MORIS but that was years ago.

Can anyone recommend an insurer that will take on younger drivers on a GT4?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Can anyone recommend an insurer that will take on younger drivers on a GT4?
My car has now finished build and i have been told to expect delivery end of this month or early July. Ideally i would like to include my son on the policy, he is 25, been driving since he was 17, never had an accident and has a clean licence but my normal insurers are saying they will not insure anyone under 30.
Any ideas?

Have you tried Lockton? If you're a PCGB member they may cover younger drivers.
Liverpool Victoria and NFU Mutual may be worth a try too.
Just had a look at the Lockton website and that looks promising. Tried calling them but they're busy so will try them again in the morning.
Thank you for your help.

Just a heads up, i'm 29 and insured on a 718 GT4
Insured through Admiral, they were by far the best in terms of pricing.
You have to watch the declaration of "modifications" with Admiral as factory fitted options are seen as mods. You have to declare anything above standard spec, which can be quite a bit on a new Porsche! When I added all my options Admiral were no cheaper than Lockton who offer a better overall product.

Just renewed with Mannings including legal expenses and track days at £518 but I am an oldie.
Yes as i'm planning a few track days at some point I will need separate track day cover.
I've previously used MORIS but that was years ago. Who are the go to people these days?

It is really expensive taking out single track day insurance you may be better to cash in your current policy and take out a policy that covers track days similar to mine with Mannings. You could also try Classicline and there are one or two others I think you will find that a better proposition as a single day from memory will cost you £200+ and if you intend to do several it could get very expensive. You will also have an excess of 10% value of car.
Hope that helps
Thanks everyone
A little update on where i am so far. Mannings came back with a good quote and on the face of it what sounds like a good comprenhensive policy, however they will not insure my son being only 25 and that rules them out. I have not managed to get through to Lockton yet so i have sent an email and waiting for them to come back to me. I will do the same with Admiral and see what happens.
I have had a quote from A Plan which i thought was quite reasonable albeit the excess was very high but i could live with that. The underwriters are ERS and i was wondering if anyone here has any experience of them?
Hi George
I am having this exact issue, me and my Dad have bought a 718 GT4 as a track car and the insurers are saying no to me until I am 30
Did you manage to find a solution out of interest?

!! What exactly are the mods that you need to declare? Not a single Porsche is sold without at least some extra options. Surely we're not required to declare the likes of heated steering wheel?
I had my Macan Turbo insured with Admiral, never declared any modifications, made a small claim (£2k) and no-one asked anything. Even assuming that only performance-enhancing options are relevant, I have Performance Pack & PASM. Perhaps if the car were to be a total write-off it'd become a problem...
BTW I don't recommend Admiral, that's a different story though.
I don't know if it's a recent thing, but you have to declare any alteration from the standard production spec - which includes all factory fitted options. So for a Porsche, this is a nightmare.

What a joke. I hope no-one will ever be in a situation where non-declaration of Passenger footwell storage net (£0) and Smoking Package (£38) are used as excuses to not pay out.

This is sadly still a grey area for insurance, especially via comparison sites. Often the wording of “manufacturers spec” isn’t clear, and some insurers do expect you to list all options, and others do not. Nightmare!
NFU for me. My fleet is all done through the NFU and had no issues at all with the kids on various GT3, R8, GT4’s, my youngest is still well under 30 and he is insured on everything at the moment and has been for a good few years.
Worth a try.

Not sure what would happen on a claim as long as you declared the full correct value. The regulator would likely step in here, but not sure.

I’ll give NFU a call tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. Do they cover track days too?
Tried Footman James and was told they don’t insure my model? (718 GT4).

What price if I may ask? They came back at £3000+ for me. (also under 30).
Sure, around £2.6k. Admiral came in at about £1.6k from memory, £1k more for unlimited track days a no brainer.
So £3k is reasonable, could be some postcode lottery at play. I'm expecting mine to decrease by a decent chunk each year otherwise would be borderline unaffordable

If you bought secondhand you might not know the full extras fitted ?

A bit like gap back to invoice.
I think its performance add ons they worry about.
Id definitely say about ceramic brakes though

Thanks. Currently it’s £600 Admiral (with the options declared), vs £3600 for Mannings. I think I’ll just stick with per track day cover as next renewal I’ll be 30. If that doesn’t bring the price tumbling down I might ask for a refund for this “ageing” thing.

Hi Chris
I went with Admiral in the end. They were by far the best option for me. Got my son and daughter both insured on it who are 25 and 28 and i believe it was around £1100 all in. We are London based so not the cheapest post code. Since then we have also bought a Taycan 4S and added that to the policy which has made it even more sense as they were the most competitive on that as well. Not had any claims experience with them though so that will be be the real test but hopefully will not have to.
Makes my £3.6k look a bargain! Come over to Admrial then, £550 for the year, one off track day insurance per track day at £600 a session with Moris for the full value.
I'm not sure I buy that excuse either at all from them...
Thanks, am planning to do just that. Have received a quote from Admiral around that figure.
Will be phoning around this week to see who offers the best standalone cover - good to know the going rate from Moris.
Just received my renewal quote for the GT4 from Manning. Up from £2.7k to £4.6k!
Apparently, "underwriters have increased the rates under our Scheme due to a large number of claims during the last year, despite lockdown".
I did not claim last year and so was expecting a sizeable decrease in premium with another year NCD. Needless to say I will not be renewing and will be looking elsewhere...
Edit: track day excess has also increased to 15%, from 10%. Would be interested if this was applied across the board to all insurees

For my 718 Spyder PDK ....... £ 1.175 pa. with ERS thru' Nowell & Richards .
Agreed Value to cover Invoice in first year.
Restricted Mileage 5,000 S.D&P Only . Not inc. Track Days
5 yr NCB ... part of a Two Vehicle Policy ... London Postcode . Not Garaged . BUT has to include Cat. 5 Tracker . Insured only Driver . Excess £ 850
Also inc. Porsche Main Dealer Repairs .
This was by far the cheapest quote considering the like-for-like cover options .

I’ve just renewed with Manning on my 981 Spyder at around £500 - small increase negated by being able to exclude track days now which I don’t need. Limited mileage, S,D &P only, garaged, maximum no claims and old. Sounds like the underwriter really didn’t want your business for some reason at that price.

Agreed, sounds like they don't! Classicline have come up trumps with a ~£1,600 quote which is much more reasonable.

On a 718 GT4? The lady on the phone told me "they don't cover that model"... Does it cover trackdays too?

Yep, comparable cover to Manning. I said Cayman GT4 on the phone, perhaps 718 doesn't show up on their system and the lady wasn't too clued up on the models...

Thanks for the tip, came in for £1100 for me including TD cover. 2nd times a charm eh?

Nice. One thing I noticed from reading up on it, apparently after 90 days Classicline's policy is non-refundable - meaning if you cancel after this period you don't get any pro-rata refund(!). But will still probably take it out

Thanks George, oddly enough I ended up going with Admiral without even seeing this in time - it was £1800 for the year
Even stranger than that I have been quoted £4k+ for an M2 Competition, the GT4 is suprisingly reasonable to ensure compared to other performance cars
