Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Was about to pick up my GT4 today...got a call saying that the factory have forgotten to fit the roll cage... I asked them if it was the correct chassis as there are bolting mounts on the firewall of the cars with CS. They reckon yes. They have raised and warranty with Porsche. Would you be worried?

POST 2Original post

A quick check if it's a correct Clubsport would be if the carpets have the pre-cut sections for harnesses and the Motorsport front cage. I suspect it hasn't got them, otherwise someone at the factory would have realised there was no rear cage to go with the CS carpet set, surely? If it has got the proper carpets, a quick peak underneath a cutout will show you if the correct chassis bolts are in place. I'd see what the factory say. They may send the OPC a cage and carpet set and get them to fit them, although the rear parcel shelf and covers would be different too? My car's not with me currently so I can't go and check what mine's like. If it was me, and my car needed taking to pieces to fit the cage, I think I'd reject it and ask for a new one. I'd also been very annoyed my OPC hadn't realised before collection day! Did the SA not check your spec vs the car before today?

POST 3Original post

A similar cock up happened to a pal of mine with a 991.1 GT3RS. Wrong seats, wrong wheels. They said these couldn’t be retrofitted, so what happened was Porsche gave him the car for 6ish months, with an agreed usage of c.5,000 miles, whilst the correct spec was being built, then when it arrived, he simply switched over to the new one. So, the point it, if they can’t retrofit this, which I wouldn’t be surprised, don’t just accept the delay, I’d be asking for that car until yours is built.

Well I thought they did as they have my a call a few days ago asking if I wanted the harnesses fitted. I said yes and heard nothing else until a few hours before the handover. To be fair, the dealership has been really good throughout the purchase so I’m willing to cut them some slack. But kinda felt like my mum had told me Christmas had been cancelled....

POST 7Original post

Never waste a good crisis, I can only imagine how frustrating it must be, but try and get 5000 miles of free motoring out of them if they have to rebuild it...

I asked them if it was the correct chassis as there are bolting mounts on the firewall of the cars with CS. They reckon yes. They have raised and warranty with Porsche. Would you be worried? unless you still really want the roll cage, I would aim to agree to £10K, minus the rollcage cost £2,778.00, so £12788 off the price, or cancel your order and start over. Edited by julian987R on Thursday 12th November 21:16

POST 9Original post

I don’t think that Porsche would “forget” to fit something. The order would have been incorrectly placed.

POST 10Original post

Not necessarily. If a cage was unavailable for some reason they may not hold the build up and send it anyway in order to meet the production schedule. Stopping the line to move a car out of the way costs the factory money. It's very odd though. I'd definitely want to get to the bottom of how it happened out of curiosity!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

actually when I registered for Porsche connect I can see the spec of my car as a picture on the app. I can see the roll cage on it. So looks like the correct order is been out through.

Had very similar situation with Audi in 2007, my R8 turned up at the dealership in black not white as I wanted, long story short - Audi UK let me have the black car absolutely foc (including insurance) for 6 months until the correct spec car was delivered. Mistakes do happen, just depends on how the problem is dealt with, I personally would take up the issue with Porsche UK.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update. OPC says that the chassis is correct and the mounting points are all there. Apparently they're finding a part number for the cage, which will be shipped over. If all the mounting points are there, will this just be a bolt in job for the cage I wonder. Or if the carpets are going to have to be pulled up etc.

POST 14Original post

Have you got the correct carpets with the cutouts? I've just checked my car and you'll also need the correct interior plastics with cutaways for the cage rails.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've not actually been down to look, but from what the SA says, it's literally only the roll cage that's missing. Anyway, Porsche have admitted they ballsed it up, so let's hope they are as fastidious about the roll cage fitment as they are about us using N-rated tyres!

POST 16Original post

Cool, must have been a supply issue at the point of build then. Make sure you get compensation of some kind for the inconvenience

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi guys, Just got my car. So they retrofitted the roll cage. Is this carpet cutout right?

POST 18Original post

I feel your pain, because that looks a beautiful car, but the pictures you have uploaded with the cut carpets can’t be how Porsche would expect at GT4 to leave the factory? Time to reject it?

POST 19Original post

Jesus they surely can’t have presented the car like that and expected you to accept it ?

POST 20Original post

Lovely car but I agree that is really poor work, I wouldn't accept that. Not sure if they can refit the trim and do it properly, seems a waste to have to reject the whole car as you'll probably be waiting months for a replacement (well, at least for now you probably can't use the car anyway, but still sucks!).

POST 21Original post

That carpet looks terrible. Is that really the finished job?

POST 22Original post

No, that is NOT how the carpet should look. Ask for a replacement carpet and some compensation at the bare minimum. Personally, I'd be asking for a replacement car but I'd have insisted on that from the get go.

POST 27Original post

Wtf are they thinking trying to pass that off ? They might have got away with it if you hadn’t been alerted to it already . The apprentice fitted that with a Stanley knife ,

POST 28Original post

Wow... I’m amazed they let that go out. Truly amazed.

POST 29Original post

They should have removed the carpet before fitting the cage, not just cut around the mounting points. It's a lazy job and I wouldn't be surprised if the other side and other areas are as bad.

POST 30Original post

My new Dacia has better carpet than that, of course your 0-60 is better than mine.

POST 32Original post

I bought a 981 GT4 CS. The roll cages were all fitted by the dealer but the carpet was nicely cut .. If you look in the front footwells of a 981 GT4 CS there are also cut-outsfor a front roll cage section .. cut but not removed. Was this the same on the CS 718 GT4 ?

POST 33Original post

I’d be inclined to reject and request a GT4 RS as compensatory replacement.

Twinfan said: luckyhands said: Anyone got a good clear photo of their cage/carpet from the same angle? Can only get some obscure ones from the internet. Cheers all! Best I can do in the dark I'm afraid: You can see from TF pic that there is another piece of carpet that goes over the top of the cage mounting and has slots pegs to join the pieces together, via the little cutout slits. Those pieces are missing from OPs pic… so job incomplete. Do you have them or do they have them? Edited by TDT on Friday 8th January 20:11

POST 35Original post

What an absolute shame i actually feel gutted for you and hope they sort it. Cant imagine the build up and hype to getting a spanking new gt4 and you turn up to that

POST 36Original post

Truly disgraceful job. Did they actually show it to you on collection? Did you check it over with them? The rear cage is a factory fit on all CS cars, 981 and 718 versions. I assume it's fitted to the body in white? Certainly before the carpets anyway. There are cutouts in the carpets for harness mounting points and those for the optional front cage, which is a motorsport part.

POST 39Original post

just been out in the cold to the car to take a pic for the OP too but see I’ve been beaten to it. Sod it. I’ll post it anyway. What about at the rear top OP? I wouldn’t be happy if I were you. Seems that they’ve bodged it. Is it grounds to reject the car I wonder, would you want to?

POST 43Original post

I would say that cutout looks waterjet cut judging by the lines on the lightweight foam backing. No personal experience of a GT4, but I would say the cutout is in the carpet from manufacturer and held in place with a tag, this would then be removed at assembly.

Philvrs said: I would say that cutout looks waterjet cut judging by the lines on the lightweight foam backing. Yes, this is how they do the cut outs. As the pics show, and as i tried to describe, there are some extra cover pieces which should be there to cover up the mounting. The plastics on the firewall near the seatbelt outlets should be scalloped for the cage to fit and the interior plastics for entry to the rear top mounts will have a proper cut out also as Mad Scientist and Rojibo show.

POST 45 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey guys Thanks for the photos and opinions. I was pretty sure it wasn’t meant to be like that but I didn’t have a reference car (well my friend did send me his a few minutes ago). I just didn’t want to go in all guns blazing. Apparently they are going to replace the carpet sets. It’s at the detailer but I might ask to pop in to inspect the car thoroughly. Really appreciate the community spirit and anyone who went to take the photo. Cheers

POST 46Original post

Awesome. I must admit I hadn't twigged there was an extra piece to go over the top. I'll claim I couldn't see my car properly in the dark Hope it gets sorted soon

POST 47Original post

i’d ask to see the car before they refit the seats so you can see the cage with the carpets andrew it’s been finished and if all good when you get the car inspect all the door cards and trim in case they hit the seats of things when refitting
