Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Brake pads are fine, loads left on them. This seems to come on after damp weather so I'm guessing moisture is earthing the circuit - is this logical? Worrying thing is that both Northway and Centre Gravity have had all 4 wheels off and cannot identify the dodgy connection. Anyone have experience of a good place to look. Bloody annoying that it disableds the ABS when it comes on - hardly a sensible default I feel.

POST 2Original post

Sorry, can't help with diagnosis or fix; just to say that the same warning ('Brake pad wear' I think it was) came on a few times over the summer on mine too. No reason (plenty of wear left in both pads and disks), went off again when the car was restarted then was fine for weeks, only to flash up again at another random point some weeks later. Has been serviced (Malton) and no faults found, only done it once since then and not at all in the last few months. Just one of those things I guess? :dont know: This is on a daily driver BTW, 10k miles since I got it in early March...

POST 3Original post

Had exactly the same symptoms with my 996 Turbo, either Brake pad light or ABS light coming on when damp, then would go off when the ignition switched off then back on. Turned out I needed new looms for each side at the front, quite a common problem so I was told. Can't give you the price as it was done under warranty.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok thanks mate. My warranty ran out 2 weeks ago and I won't be renewing. Hope this doesn't make me regret it but how expensive can it be...

POST 5Original post

Disables the ABS?! Never heard that and can't believe it. The looms are simply 2 wires that connect a circuit triggering a dashboard light. It nay be difficult to find the exact loom since it may only be a tiny fracture in the insulation of the wire. They are relatively cheap to replace. Check design911 or eurocarparts for prices, think it's under £10 per loom/ sensor... Can someone confirm that ABS thing as I honestly have never heard that before????

POST 6Original post

Interesting. Mine seems to come on when under sustained hard acceleration (came on again at the weekend when I was chasing a B7 RS4 on the motorway) rather than when damp, and never when I am actually on the brakes (i.e. it just comes on randomly when I'm accelerating). Still only happening maybe once every 6-8 weeks. It'll be in for a service within the next 2 months so I will mention it again, armed with the loom information, thanks! :thumb:
