Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

1) No probs with corrosion, wear and tear, overheating due to the grills (to be fair, only the last makes any sense, seeing as they were fitted less than 12 months ago).

Having said that, as far as I know, OPC (Cambridge) inspect the rads at every service and use a high pressure air-line to dislodge any debris.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There's a fair few threads on here regarding adding grills to the front PU(?) of your car to help protect the radiators. I'm planning on fitting parking sensors to my CS4 and considering doing the grill mod at the same time, having seen the amount of build up that to occurs at this time of year from dead leaves and such. As I said there's plenty threads showing how to remove the front PU (why does nobody call it a bumper?) and there's plenty showing where to get the grills and how to fit them. But I'm just wondering: 1. Has anyone that fit grills had problems or had to replace their rads since? (corrosion, wear and tear, overheating due to the grills, etc) 2. Are the grill-squad still removing their PU(!) every so often to clear out build-up 'just in case'? 3. Is there any chance that this debris is working its way in from another source (underneath) and would it be worth grilling up these gaps too?

POST 2Original post

PU = PolyUrethane (the plastic it is made from). Porsche's term for "bumper" - I guess it saves translating. 1) No probs with corrosion, wear and tear, overheating due to the grills (to be fair, only the last makes any sense, seeing as they were fitted less than 12 months ago). If the rads aren't punctured by stone impact, or corroded by "exogenous" grot, they should last for a decade or more. Additionally, mine are DINITROL'd too. 2) No PU removal, only particles less than 5mm can get passed mesh. These either continue through rad matrix, or I cut a 20mm hole at the furthest corner/base of the air channel so any grit drops out. Having said that, as far as I know, OPC (Cambridge) inspect the rads at every service and use a high pressure air-line to dislodge any debris. http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=51912 3) No. The rubberised air channels are almost sealed around the front of the rads. (unless the dirt is making i's way up behind the rads, but some forward motion would remedy this).
