Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the car was parked for 2 months or so,, i started the engine last night and heard an unfamiliar ticking sound from rear tire wells,, sounds like valve train noise,, any idea? is it due to long park?

POST 2Original post

Lifter leaked down. Let the car idle 15-20 see if it goes away.

POST 3Original post

I hear that whenever I let the car sit for more than a week. Lifter, as mentioned above.

i freaked out and shut off the engine,, would it go if i left it idle for longer?

If it is the simple tick, tick, tick; then yes, what others have said here - lifter leak down. Rattles or that type of sound is NOT normal. Back the car out into the driveway and keep the rev's around 1000-2000rpm for a minute and then let idle. As the oil pressure lowers as the oil temperature rises - the ticking should disappear. If the ticking continues after your engine temp's have reached normal and the oil pressure reaches around .5 bar to 1 bar then, yes you may have a stuck lifter. Not the end of the world but it will cost you some maintenance from your service provider. A good test is that the ticking goes away with a slight increase in rpm and with foot off the throttle and idling it comes back. If the ticking gets louder when you increase the rpm and doesn't subside - STOP - you have a stuck lifter (or more issues) that need attention. Drive your car more often!

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i let the car idle for 20 minutes and i guess its fine now,, when i rev the engine between 1-2k rpm,, the engine and car vibrate until i reach 3k rpm before it gets normal,, any idea?

almost two months,, and the car has a LWFW,,

POST 9Original post

Would be great if you could take a short video of it. even iphone is decent at recording sounds during video I think everybody could learn something. I have personally heard a lot about those stuck lifters but would be curious to hear one.

Slight misfire? If you have a code reader - check for any codes that show up. Some issues don't light up the CEL (yet) but can still generate a code to alert you to some function outside the normal parameters. You can buy a cheap OB2 code reader at NAPA. From there you can Google the code numbers listed.

POST 11Original post

lifter leak down. Since it quieted down by idling, no worries about engine noise. Now go for a good drive, get it nice and warm. Not just idle. See if you have same issues. Either top off with new fuel -- or run it down and get a completely new tankful. Note the DME "learns" and adjusts continuously, so that can influence short term effects. m

The dual mass FW serves as some kind of vibration dampener. The LWFW can't serve as this so my WAG is the vibration absent any CEL, pending error codes, is you are feeling the missing benefit of the dual mass FW. Sincerely, Macster.
