It was kind of funny, as the idie I use (Lufteknic) was a bit surprised that I had replaced the 4 tie rods to kill the suspension noise, actually knew that was the source of the problem, and that I knew the right places to measure for height and was actually accurate in how I leveled the car.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am planning on getting a set of PSS9's for my '03 C2. The car will be street only, with 1-2 AutoX per year. I want ride height of about 25.5" all around, or about .5" lower than ROW030. I am planning to keep my stock sways. Thinking of 4/3 or 5/4 click setting on the shocks for what most people use on the street without beeing too harsh. My question is, with the current PSS9 kit, do I have anything to worry about in terms of bumps, creaks, wierd noises, etc? I have seen a few posts about these things and have wondered if this is an issue for most users of this system. Also, do folks go with a ROW030, GT3, or ??? Alignment spec? Chris

POST 2Original post

Chris, I have PSS9s on my 1999 996. They were installed by the previous owner and I believe are set at 3/4. My previous 99 996 had the stock suspension. They represent a huge improvement over the stock suspension. They don't make any wierd noises. Here is a picture of the current ride hieght...I'm not sure how much the previous owner had it lowered. I have to take speed bumps at an angle and pay attention to steep driveways. I imagine it will be a little more of an issue when I finally get my aero kit installed. I highly recommend them. The ride at 3/4 is a little harsh for a daily driver, but it is fine for a weekend toy.

POST 3Original post

Looking good Mark! Gt3 alignment here... with 4/3 (f/r). Having a stiffer rear keeps the *** planted better. yes, kinda stiff for a DD (I would go 7/5 for DD).... but ok for weekend warrior stuff, at the track.... 1/1. and an opportunity to post pics......

POST 4Original post

Got PSS9 with stock sways. Fronts at 4. The only weird sound after getting mine was an occasional click or snap when moving (back to forth usually). I understand that its the springs somewhat "unwinding" from the perch. Nothing to worry about. On track, handles much better than stock and no longer feels like a boat. On street, a little bumpier but still comfortable. The nose no longer rises when accelerating hard through the gears. The nose no longer dives in HARD breaking (straight). Best wishes on your latest project!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Great pics guys - keep the comments coming!

POST 6Original post

anobody can comment between the PSS9 and PSS10 ? I am looking to upgrade for PSS, but I was under the impression that the PSS9 were discontinued, no ?

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

They are discontinued, but can be found pretty cheap. I am looking at a set for $1778 shipped.

POST 8Original post

Nice discount compared to what I was quoted for PSS10 $2600 Where are you shopping for discontinued PSS9 ? ebay ?

POST 9Original post

If anyone's interested, I have a set of PSS10's from my 996 Spec that I used a total of 5 weekends. After that JRZ stepped up and offered us their shocks at a reasonable cost. These are valved by Bilstein to handle up to 700 lb springs, but will work just fine with lesser loads. $2,000. w/whatever springs rate you want....

POST 10Original post

I just installed the PSS9. I wind mine up to 6/9 or so and they make less noise than my clapped out stock suspension ever did. Less harsh over the joints - very nice.

I would like to know where this is at?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm working on that... I am still trying to figure out if they actually have them in stock and available or if they can no longer be ordered at that price. Hopefully they email me back tomorrow and i'll let everyone know.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 7496805

thats how much i paid, when they still had them...

POST 14Original post

thing is that tirerack.com still want $2300 for PSS9! http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/s....H1&perfCode=P and $2600 for PSS10. So at $1700... that is quite a discount there.

POST 15Original post

Not to just resurrect an old thread, but this one already has pics of 996s on PSS9s, so I figured best to add on. I wondered, has anyone actually accurately measured from the Porsche measurement points on their PSS9 or 10 lowered 996? I actually cut short pieces or rigid plastic so I can slip them under each point, and thenmeasure each one to get an accurate distance. In my case, after alignment of -30' F and -136' R, I measured 116mm front and 127mm rear. This gives me around 25 3/8 at each front fender and 25 1/2 rear, arch to ground, measured through the center caps.

POST 16Original post

Would help if I put in a before and after pic. I also added 7mm FVD spacers since the before pic, and the old tires were Sumi HRTZIIs vs new N3 PS2s.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 9770683

I don't have PSS9's but Factory GT3 CO's nonetheless and I followed Porsche's Factory measurement procedure for the GT3's.

POST 18Original post

Yes, that's where I measured from, ut if you've done it, you know it's not easy to get a meaningful measurement easily. So I cut the small pieces ans slide them underneath for accuracy. I was ooking to see if anyone ahs ever done a post meaurement after install

POST 19Original post

I am looking at refreshing the suspension on my 2000 model 996 Cab with 160,000km. I would rather not lower the ride height as my driveway is a little steep. Can PSS10s be installed with the standard ride height ? Thanks Guy

POST 20Original post

No, they can't. My driveway, as you can see in the pic, is more than a little steep. My rear is as high as a PS9/10 will go, the front is about 1/2 as low. There is only a 20mm range front/and 5mm range rear that it has to be adjusted to within. That is why I asked if anyone else had measurements from Porsches' height locations, as the Bilstein measurement is a little hard to get exact. (center of a bolt hole to the top of the bottom spring perch.) As I mentioned, I dropped about 1 1/4" (32mm) F&R, and could go no lower in the front due to my driveway, but mine was a stock USA suspension. European heights are different, bu even then, there is still quite a drop, at least 25mm I'd guess. I purposely raised the rear to the 5mm max, to try to maintain the F/R relationship that the X74 cars are designed to have at that height. Then I had to make some adjustments for rough corner balancing.

POST 21Original post

I just had my C4 with PSS 9s realigned and corner balanced. My height setting was to low for my driveway and my Tech-Art headers bottomed going over speed-bumps. Also after 3200 mile trip to Parade - loaded with luggage - I noticed excessive rear inside tire wear. So there is now a definite rake to the front and measuring the center wheel to fender lip net the front at 25 1/2 inches and the rear at 26 1/4 inches. This is about 1/2 higher in front and 3/4 inch in the rear from the prior settings. I must admit the C4 handle better like this as I just did a run up My Baker and turn in was sharper and I did not notice any looseness in the rear from raising it. Of Course the realignment fixed toe issues as well. Anyway ... just my experience. Was sure worth the $500 and I do not have to listen to my wife crunching as she backs out of the drive way.

POST 22Original post

So did your indie do all the work (raise the front & rear and new alignment)? Did anyone measure the Bilstein points or under the car points? Just curious, as the fender measurements are not always accurate or reflective of true height. Your fronts are close to mine, but I couldn't get my rears up that high without boing WAY over Bilsteins instructions. But the widebodies may be totally different at the fenders. It was kind of funny, as the idie I use (Lufteknic) was a bit surprised that I had replaced the 4 tie rods to kill the suspension noise, actually knew that was the source of the problem, and that I knew the right places to measure for height and was actually accurate in how I leveled the car. He did a superb job on the alignment, and I am so far extremely pleased with handling and balance. After driving the car, he also made a good recommendations for the Bilstein street settings, (4F/6R) which I am trying out and like so far. He said that he would always keep the settings a little softer in the rear to plant the car better during an upset.

POST 24Original post

Perry, My Indie always refers to a Suspension specialist just down the street True-Line. Second generation shop with really top notch equipment and the owner has a 996 (though he is a Harley Guy). Anyway they seem to understand Porsche's and modified suspensions. This guy is full service "under the car" with suspensions and installs PSS 9 and other modified gear for track and street..
