Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am looking to purchase a 2003 996 4S in Daytona,FL. I am looking for a shop to assist with a PPI and was looking for any recommendations. Also I have a video of the engine the dealer sent me of the engine and I hear a ticking noise.

POST 2Original post

My 996.2 made that same exact type noise, changed out the belt and it went away completely. The belt actually came out in pieces. But most diffidently get a full ppi with bore scoping.

POST 3Original post

I hear a ticking but not like the dreaded bore score tick. Others will chime in with ideas.

POST 4Original post

Tough to tell if there is anything to be concerned about with the recording. Get all the service records you can to see what has been done and when. You can easily and cheeply get an oil test done with 3 day turnaround thru LN/Speeddiagnostics to see what's in the oil and therfore potential internal problems. Approx $100 or so. Highly recomend it as a quick and cheap analysis tool. Obviously, dropping the sump and cutting open the oil filter will give you a good view of debris if any. Borescope will give you a clear visual of the bores.

I second it being the belt or loose spark plug. But yes, if you're serious about it full PPI w scope.

I agree, it has the same period as the belt itself.
