Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I do not have LED tails installed (or anywhere else actually), it does not happen when I hit the brake, it only happens when I turn on my running lights (first position on the switch).
Leading evidence: 'Install (or anywhere else actually)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install (or anywhere else actually)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. I did replace the brake switch as well as the MAF just to eliminate those possibilities.

So I was confused as my brake lights were working, so I assumed it cannot be them, especially since the fault was not triggered by using the brakes.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Heya,
So I am hoping someone can offer some insight here... I have a 2000 996 C4 coupe tiptronic. In the last week my ABS & PSM lights will come on. I do not have LED tails installed (or anywhere else actually), it does not happen when I hit the brake, it only happens when I turn on my running lights (first position on the switch). My MAF is good, the car throws no codes whatsoever, and when I restart the car the lights turn off. If I drive with them on my cruise control does not work either. Through searching I have seen that it could be a bad brake switch, but that will trigger when you engage the brakes. LED tails or some other LED item, or a bad MAF. I have none of these things. I am wondering if maybe it is a fuse? the only thing is the lights and such do work.
Just to eliminate these possibilities ......
I did replace the brake switch as well as the MAF just to eliminate those possibilities.
Same symtoms....
PSM & ABS lights appear as soon as
I turn on running lights. I can hit the brake lights all day long and no failures.
Cruise control also will not work in this state. I checked every fuse (all of them yes) and all seem ok. Any help or ideas would be appreciated
Thanks much
Low battery voltage will also do strange things. What is your voltage? Does this happen while engine is above 2k rpm? Is your charging voltage above 13v?
Sorry for the delayed reply, just saw this. So I figured it out, and feel kinda silly afterwords. So I was confused as my brake lights were working, so I assumed it cannot be them, especially since the fault was not triggered by using the brakes. I even looked in the manual to make sure I was using the right bulbs, and according to the manual I was. Then while sitting there in utter frustration and looking at the tail light harness I noticed something odd... the socket for the brake light is dual filament...So After doing my due diligence, by replacing the MAF and brake switch just in case it turns out to be a $4 bulb (bulb 7528 in case anyone ever has this happen). What I found interesting is that the manual had no mention of this. But oh well, did not get a Porsche to be cheap lol, and I got to learn stuff.
