I originally had a XM unit hooked up to my stock radio, but I ended up removing everything and having a Kenwood double DIN system installed with Sirius/XM, bluetooth, iPod connectivity, etc.

I kinda like the idea simply because it means I have a tidy install and I can still use the stock setup if I choose.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

22 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Did a quick search but didn't find anything useful............so, has anyone been successful in fitting any kind of decent looking XM kit to the car? Don't really want a load of cables hanging around. Has anyone repleced to stock factory radio with an XM ready unit? If so what brand and what cost? Thanks in advance for the help! Les.

POST 2Original post

Search for Double DIN and you should find many threads. You might also search for Kenwood or for Pioneer, as they are popular replacement units. I originally had a XM unit hooked up to my stock radio, but I ended up removing everything and having a Kenwood double DIN system installed with Sirius/XM, bluetooth, iPod connectivity, etc.

Thanks Dennis, I'll check it out.

POST 4Original post

I did this a few years ago, works great with the stock radio.

POST 5Original post

Mine is identical to "David in VA", albeit older model, perhaps. You can remove the trays from the CD holder and work with that to mount it. I was going to update it, but the newer models are to big for that area. You'll have to find an older one. I've opted to go with a new double din unit. Everything is bought and painted,.....just have to install it! PorscheSatRadio.jpg

POST 6Original post

Do a search on eBay for euromotorspeed double din fit kit...great guy, super helpful, and the logo bezel is really nice...I've got pics of mine in one of my other posts...

POST 9Original post

Dennis, what year is your car? I went to a local well known entertainment installer and they said they didn't list an XM module for my year, 03. There data went back only to 04. BTW, I thought the cars were the same, in this regard, through 2005??

You can find it in his ebay store - http://stores.ebay.com/Euro-Motorspeed I'd drop him a line or call first, he knows exactly which items you will need... You don't have the MOST system do you? If you do, it can get pretty expensive trying to replace all the fiber-optic stuff...

POST 15Original post

I put an Alpine unit with satellite and other external device capabilities. It's nice to have 2012 technology in a 1999 vehicle.

Mine is a 2002. I have no MOST ring like the 2003+ cars.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9765987

I went down to the place today and they did say I have the fiber optic "stuff." They're advising me to have one of those small XM units fitted and integrating it's FM output hardwired into the existing antenna cable. That way no local and strong FM stn will override the XM signal. I kinda like the idea simply because it means I have a tidy install and I can still use the stock setup if I choose. Anyone go hat way? If so, how's it working for you? For anyone who now has XM, where is the XM antenna located and does it look decent?

POST 18Original post

That's what I originally had in my car hooked up to my stock stereo. In that case, the XM antenna was installed on my dash, up close to the windshield near the indicator light for the alarm system. For my current system, the XM/Sirius antenna is installed on my front bumper underneath the bumper cover, compeltely concealed.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9768548

Dennis, any reception problems with the antenna hidden by the bumper? On my MazdaSpeed3, I had a roof mounted antenna and even that had problems when going under any kind of decent tree covering!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9768988

Sorry to be a pain Dennis but is your current antenna the same as the version you had on your dashtop or is it some kind of high-gain thing?

POST 22Original post

I wish I knew the answer. The antenna currently on my bumper is a Kenwood antenna that came with my new double-DIN system. I'm not sure how it compares to the one I had before. I know some people hide them underneath the black plastic cover below the windshield with success too.
