Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I guess as long as I have everything apart I'll start replacing the SAI valves and check all the associated hoses so I don't do this again for a long while.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

All right - who's heard of this and what is its real name? Search turned up no results. I know it has something to do with the secondary air injection and it's causing a vacuum leak and an engine code. The mechanic at the dealer says he doesn't know the real name but that's what they all call it because it looks just like R2D2.
They want $800 to fix it but the part is around $80.
Maybe the vacuum tank (993 110 140 03)? Or the shut-off valve (996 113 249 01)?
I have a little experience with the system on early boxsters but not on 996s. There is a diagram in this thread that may help:

A pic here shows what must be it:

Looks like I need to remove the airbox and throttle body. Anyone confirm?

Yeah, you beat me too it. The entire time I was looking at the diagram I was distracted by a voice in my head telling me "These aren't the droids you're looking for." so it took me longer to post.
You might check with some of the Spec Boxster guys in your area and see if they have one sitting on a shelf as it is common to remove them from our cars. The part number is the same on the early (2.5L) Boxsters.
