Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

In the past, it was handled either under warranty, or changed when I had my IMS bearing installed.
Leading evidence: 'Replace when i had my ims bearing installed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check digital oil level sensor/sender system is working ok' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used Motul large plastic hand gripped bottles and used almost two of them in one oil change.

By this method of adding exactly the specified amount of oil can the techs then double check the digital oil level sensor/sender system is working ok.

They are in my storage/rental garage off site, so I can't check the label easily right now due to the foot problem.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I plan on start doing them myself, but I just had a foot operation in early May, and I am still recovering. I had purchased some factory filters and several of the "Large" Motul oil brand containers. They are in my storage/rental garage off site, so I can't check the label easily right now due to the foot problem.
I *think* they are 4 liter in size - they have a grip on the bottle, and it's pretty heavy.
The shop that is going to do my change only stocks Mobile 1, so they said they don't mind if I bring my own oil.
My stupid question is this - how many of these large bottles do I need to complete the oil change in my 04 40th AE? I heard (might be incorrect - you never know) that the M96 hold 9 quarts. I guess I could go to a liter/quart conversion site, but I am unsure if the 9 quarts is correct, and obviously I don't want to bring too little. When the oil was on sale a few months ago I picked up around 6 of these large bottles.
Thanks for any help to my newb oil change question. In the past, it was handled either under warranty, or changed when I had my IMS bearing installed.
Regards,
Steve
I used Motul large plastic hand gripped bottles and used almost two of them in one oil change. 'Motul Excess' I think they were called 5/40 full synthetic. I changed mine every 5000 miles. You should have enough with two bottles.
If the bottle holds 4 liters you'll need roughly 2.25 bottles if the engine requires 9 liters of oil.
No need to cut it that close. When I take my cars in for an oil/filter service and I supply the oil -- Mobil 1 5w-50 -- I have 2 cases -- 6 quarts each case or 12 quarts -- of oil in the car.
The techs know to add the right amount -- which may or may not be what is in the owners manual. The unused bottles are left in the car along with a partially full bottle which I use to top up the oil level when it drops over the 5K miles I drive between oil/filter services.
Adding the right amount is the way the techs verify the oil level sensor/sensor system is working properly.
For instance, in the case of my Turbo the steps to drain/refill the oil include the instruction to add X liters of oil. I can't recall the exact number but say it is 7.8l or IIRC 8.25 quarts of oil.
With this amount of oil added the digital oil level display should show the oil level is at the top most bar the max bar, but not above this.
Or below this.
By this method of adding exactly the specified amount of oil can the techs then double check the digital oil level sensor/sender system is working ok.
Sincerely,
Macster.
