Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

And, will this bumper cover leave holes if I am running stock radiators and plumbing up front?

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Kids, I am hitting 178k on my daily driver. Within the next 12 to 15k (about a year) I will be updating and freshening and retiring this one to "... fun car" status. (Done upgraded wheels already). Questions. 1. Does the C4 or "... turbo" style bumper cover fit right up with these or are there any issues? I've looked at aftermarkets and not seen anything that I like as much as the bigger scoops on the Porsche part. And, will this bumper cover leave holes if I am running stock radiators and plumbing up front? 2. The engine runs fine but I was thinking of the following... Either buying a Porsche Power Kit to bump me up to "S" specs of about 345 BHP... Or, looking into whether Ruf would build me up their 3.6 (which I think gets me into 385 territory, but I am imagining super expensive)... Or, taking the car to Franz Blam or some other local specialist (I am in Atlanta) for some tweaking. For point of reference, I am not a die hard racer, and the car, as it sits, is plenty fun for me, but it might be nice to get a little extra "... grin factor" if it does not significantly increase maintenance costs or decrease service intervals... In other words, not looking for a high strung "... ***** to the wall" transformation, but a little something extra would be fun. My car is now about 3 generations old, but I get more and more fond of the look as compared to the 997s and the new ones. I'd love to spend the money on this one and keep it... Or buy a Cayman. Any input appreciated. JKC

POST 2Original post

The C4S and Turbo covers are "wide-body" and won't fit your car.

POST 3Original post

You've got 178k on a MKI 996? Mind telling us what kind of maintenance you've had to do? ANy engine rebuild wil be expensive. Makes more sense to buy an engine already built.

POST 4Original post

The Turbo/C4S bumper will fit the front of the 03 with no problems at all. Popular upgrade and even came standard on the 40th anniversary cars. I am told the rear will fit with some work or you can go aftermarket copy.

+1 Front bumper cover will fit fine. The rear cover will not. For grin factor, your best bang for your buck will be intake and exhaust upgrades. The car will be louder and it will feel faster, but actual HP gains are the subject of much debate. Other tweaks or upgrades will only give you marginal gains unless you upgrade to some kind of forced induction. Updating to the power kit with Porsche parts won't be cheap. Also, FWIW, the 4S has the same engine and HP rating as the standard narrow body.

POST 7Original post

JC do yourself a favor, go to flat6innovations.com read the entire site. Then call & make a appointment for a maintenance checkup & do what they advise for your car now & start saving for a 3.8 engine rebuild. Do this & you will never want to sell your 996!

POST 8Original post

^^^Exactly^^^. There is no excuse. You live in the same state as F6.

POST 9Original post

JC, I wanted to meet Jake and see for myself what F6I is all about so I flew up to Atlanta last summer and rented a car. IIRC it was a little more than hour's drive to the shop from the airport. I echo Byprodiver and Fasteddy's recommendation about checking Flat 6 out. Jake is a very interesting guy and everyone there is very friendly. I spent a lot of time reading on the website but there is a lot Jake doesn't publish but will share with you personally. Good luck!
