I installed Sumi's on my c4s...considered the Hankooks, but in the dry I understand the sumi's are better.

I replaced the P-Zeros that came on my R with a set and I will say that they are WORLDS better than the P-Zero...at least on that car.

I have run all 4 and can easily sum it up for you.

I ran a couple of laps with them and felt the traction to be excellent, great grip when pushed hard..

Suggestion
I have run the V12 on another vehicle and was not super impressed, only reason I got them was because of price and availability and soon after regretted it, the only reason I would buy them again would be if I was broke and needed tires the same day and they were the only ones available.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just got my first p-car this week and it needs a new set of tires. Going to use for spirited street driving and will be using same tires/wheels for track / DE days.
Looking right now at Hankook V12 or Sumi HTRIII, what have your experiences been like?
Lot's of threads on this. Do a search.
BTW, I've had the Sumi HTR-ZIII on my car for about 2 years. Very happy with them. Good all-around tire for the money.
Never tried the Hankook's but I've gone through three sets of Sumis on my car in the past couple of years. I've had them on for DEs and they seem to be ok. I'm far from a pro but I don't think the tires are what is holding me back from going faster.
Man, you got that right!
Cliffnotes: If wet traction is more important than dry -
V12
. I prefer
Sumitomos
for overall performance and ride quality.
Please call me if I can help. Thanks
Tire discussions are almost as contentious as oil discussions. I went from PS2s to Hankooks. After 4000 miles I like the Hankooks better for the street.
The wet performance is excellent.
On a Porsche ? Plus the name Hankook just does;t do it for me
Well lots of guys like the V12 here - I have Sumi's - made huge difference from the worn pirellis and very happy so far. For the money you probably can;t go wrong with either.
I use the Hankooks for daily drivng. They're soft and unsuitable for aggressive driving, but they are cheap and they have a decent treadwear.
I keep a set of Yokohama A048 semislicks on Sport Classic II two piece wheels for AX, track and even for when I'm out for a pleasure run.
***Apologies in advance for the mini hijack - but I'm trying to get a hold of trendy996 because he may have a GBox 2nd gear detent for me. You got your ears on good buddy? ***
It's a pretty elite crowd that is brand concious about tires.
I can't imagine a hottie liking my car until she sees Hankook on my sidewall. I mean, I imagine her all the time, just not disliking my tires.
Get the tire that best matches your wallet to your requirement. V12s lasted just fine for me at a DE weekend. Another dude shredded his V12s on his 996 that same session, but I know he drives HARD. Chunks were coming off the tires.
On my second set of Hankook V12's I have no idea what some of these guys are talking about. They are ecellent tires, highly rated by magazines and on the web and more importantly they are extreamly reasonable. All I know is they work for me on my daily driver and I drive it like I stole it rain or shine and V12's are fine.
I installed Sumi's on my c4s...considered the Hankooks, but in the dry I understand the sumi's are better. I did a recent DE...tires did very well. My previous PS2's may have been better...but the car was fast, tires talked to me, and did not notice much (any) sidewall issues. There good for me for now.
Just installed the Sumi's last week to replace PS2's.. A little too early to tell you if I like them as they appear noisier than the michelins. I ran a couple of laps with them and felt the traction to be excellent, great grip when pushed hard.. Can't beat the price... Call Damon ..

I went thought this same deliberation and the ultimate answer for me was a set of Michelin Super Sports. When it came right down to it the SS were only $200-$300 more than the V12's.
I just went back from Sumis to PS2s. Personally, I feel that the car handles better with the PS2s and the PS2s are definitely quieter. For the money, the Sumi is a very good tire. The same can be said about the Hankook. However, I just like the PS2 better. Sumis and Hankooks make quite a bit of noise at the end of their life. It's not a status thing or an elitist thing. 99.99% of people don't notice what kind of tires you are running, and of the ones that do, 99.99% don't care.
The Mich PS2 or PSS are far superior to the Sumi's and Hankooks.
I have run all 4 and can easily sum it up for you.
PS2&PSS weak in the wet but acceptable. Far superior in every other application.
V12 a good all around tire but a bit squishy on the side wall. 8 Laps before they get mushy and over heat.
Sumi's III good all around tire with a hard side wall. Not a very pleasant daily ride. Road irregularities just pound the car. On the track they get about 10 laps before becoming mushy and overheat.
Auto-crossers are fine with the Sumis and V12 because the tires dont have much of a chance to heat up on a max 2min run.
For lapping pay the money to keep your car off the walls!!!
I know not so popular for the Pcrowd but I switched to Toyo Proxes as my 'spirited' street driving tire with lots of canyon runs and love them - by far my favorite tire to date and very reasonable price.
Well as weird as it might seem, this Korean rubber company is sponsoring this year's DTM championship as their official race tire. You know, the race that consists of three German automakers?
I started with Michelin PS2's, went to some Sumi's, then went to Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's, this year I am starting on some michelin Super Sports. I have run the V12 on another vehicle and was not super impressed, only reason I got them was because of price and availability and soon after regretted it, the only reason I would buy them again would be if I was broke and needed tires the same day and they were the only ones available.
I will usually go through 2 sets of tires a year, never really go below 50% on any of them, but so far the Sport Maxx GT's have been my favorite, we will see how the new Super Sports work, had them for about two weeks now and they seem pretty good.
I will Never buy V12's again. They chunked in under 10 laps on track. Badly. They are fine for the road, but will be easily overdriven by a Porsche with an average driver. Even on the road. They have good wet characterustics, though. if you plan to push the car, you will find the V12 limits long before you are ready.
Good all around tire with higher limits and good wet handling too? Yokohama. Less than pilot sports and very nice tires. I was pleasantly surprised!
I disagree. I'm very pleased with PS2s. Sorry your experience hasn't been good.
I would like to try PSSs when they become available in the proper size for wide body rear wheels.
I probably would have bought the PSSes if they were available for wide bodies when I needed tires last Fall. Instead, I decided to give the Sumis a shot and I am not at all disappointed. Now, I haven't tracked my car and I haven't taken it on any long trips but I have enjoyed some spirited drives and I do use it as a daily driver (more or less) during the warm months. Are PS2s better? Sure. Are they twice the tire? Not even a little. I am very happy with them and don't regret buying them for a second. YMMV.

I just practically gave away my SPT's that were on my wife's BMW. Harsh ride and get's noisy as it wears. Road grip was pretty decent. FWIW, it got replaced with Continental DWS and they were better vs the SPT's in almost all aspects.
I replaced the P-Zeros that came on my R with a set and I will say that they are WORLDS better than the P-Zero...at least on that car. I don't put a lot of mileage on my cars generally but I will probably try something else when they wear out. I'm still a PS2 fan at heart but I like trying out the competition sometimes just to see what all of the buzz is about. The Sumis and Kumhos are so inexpensive you can always swap them out for the "better" tire and sell them on eBay if you end up hating them and you won't feel like you threw away tons of cash.

Blow? A bit extreme, and you're definitely in the minority opinion there. Though, PS2s, like many tires, have gone through iterations. Original PS2s were not anything to write home about, but the latest ones are pretty amazing. Worth the extra money? We'll see...
I was essentially in this scenario. The tires suited the bill, at one third the price of PS2s that were available that day. That's a huge difference.
Now recently, I've learned the Costco carries PSSs locally. I likely should have done that, in hindsight.
I ended up going with the Sumis and am probably getting to the end of break in period for them. They have a lot of road noise (probably from being in break-in period from what I've read). Definitely felt greasy when I first got them on, after about 300 miles on them and the grip has gotten much better. Grip and road feel is a plus now.
I didn't see the Super Sports in the proper sizes for the 18" sport designs.
