Suggestion

I wouldn't recommend using leather conditioner on those bits because they may rehydrate the leather causing it to lose its bond with the surface...you don't want to make it supple in those areas.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What are some good products for the leather seats? how about for the non leather parts, like the dash/doors? Or are they leather as well? they feel like hard imitation leather lol i use turtle wax on my car once every couple months, but nothing for interior.. any suggestions? also, is the dash/doors leather? i'm talking about that hard non-plastic material

POST 4Original post

Maquire's makes a leather cleaner and a separate interior cleaner. Both come in a spray bottle and I have had good luck with both. It doesn't build up like Armor All and attract dust. Plus, the leather cleaner is not a paste so it doesn't build up in the perforated holes in sport seats. I use the leather cleaner on the seats, dash (full leather) rear console cover, steering wheel and door panels. Interior cleaner everywhere else.

POST 5Original post

Lexol, Lexol, Lexol... cleaner and conditioner.

POST 6Original post

The correct answer is of course ... Lexol. I think pretty much any cleaner is OK. But Lexol conditioner is, in fact, the correct answer.

POST 7Original post

303 Aerospace Protectant on the interior surfaces incl leather dash and doors on my car. Lexol on the seats.

POST 8Original post

Connolly Leather Care for my Natural Leather seats. ; )

I was hoping someone would say that. I've seen posts about 303 on all the exterior plastic trim, and glad to see it used on all surfaces on the interior except leather. I've been wanting to give 303 a try but didn't want to mess anything up.

POST 10Original post

I actually use 303 on the glued leather surfaces (dash, doors. trim); been doing so for years and took 2nd place in the PCA concour twice...so it must be helping! I wouldn't recommend using leather conditioner on those bits because they may rehydrate the leather causing it to lose its bond with the surface...you don't want to make it supple in those areas. 303 is totally safe for leather and provides UV protection. The seats are a different story; you want suppleness so Leatherique, Lexol and Connolly Hide Food are the right products there.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 9606393

Awesome, thanks Pongobaz. Just the info I was hoping to hear! I'm out the door to go get some 303! So you all think that it's good for anything 'black' on the outside of the car too?

POST 12Original post

As a professional luxury and sports car Detailer I have used virtually every product on the market. 303 is my go to for all things plastic, vinyl and rubber. I buy gallons of it every year. The nice thing about is that it doesn't attract and hold dust like some products and you can adjust the amount of shine. Too shiny? Simply knock it down with a micro fiber towel to suit your taste. It works great on all the seals as well. It's great on tires and will not brown or sling off. Great stuff!

POST 13Original post

Thanks Gator, your post made me a happy camper! BTW, you a U of Florida guy with a name like that? If so, I hate to say it, but my wife is a Florida State girl and she had her last license plate say "GATRHTR". LOL! I'm not a sports dude, so I think its so funny all these rivalries. I went to USC and so I guess I'm supposed to dislike UCLA? Whatever.

POST 14Original post

Indeed a UF grad Peavy. I am so sorry to hear about your wife's troubles with getting into an actual college. She can tell the peculiar thing at FSU of why birds fly upside down over the campus. Long story short, there isn't anything worth ****ting on down there. We love our in state rivalries so it's all in good fun!

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 9611011

Yup, I used it on all rubber and plastic trim inside and out. Also use it on the tires. As Gator said, it doesn't attract dust and doesn't wash off after the first rain fall. I buy it online in the 4L container!

POST 16Original post

What does everyone use to freshen up the worn leather on the shift ****, e- brake, etc?

POST 17Original post

I use griots. Griotsgarage.com i have never had a bad product form them. I did professional detailing for BMW.

POST 18Original post

Leatherique bar none, Lexol is good for maintenance but for leather that needs serious car or restoration of leather, leatherique is where it is at, look anywhere and the reviews for it are awesome, very popular with many professional detailers, and really the only leather product I use.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so what's that material that the dash is made out of? it's not as soft as the seat leather, and its obviously not plastic hard.

POST 20Original post

If you have full leather (was standard on TT and C4S) the dash is leather too, but it is glued on. If you soften it up too much with leather conditioners, it will eventually come unglued and lift. If you don't have the full leather option, your dash, doors and trim are plastic/vinyl.

POST 21Original post

Quotes source post: 9611518

If the leather is worn to the point that you are seeing bare spots there are very few options. The materials in most cars nowadays are coated leather or coated vinyls. It is like a clear coat for leather. Once you wear through the clear layer and the color layer you really cant "condition" or treat it back to black. There is a product on the market that I have used in the past with great results. It is essentially a paint that is specifically designed for leathers. They have the Porsche colors. I will check my files and get the name for you guys. It is a ton cheaper than replacing parts.

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 9612129

Awesome, I'd love to hear more about it. I've got some worn spots on the door handle.

POST 23Original post

Here is the link to the Colorplus products. It simply paints on with a brush. I reconditioned an entire 928 dash with it and it looked marvelous. http://www.colorplus.com/products/su...tandard-colors

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 9612251

Looks good. Thanks for the tip!

POST 25Original post

So, on the leather dash and door trim - Lexol bad, 303 OK to use??

POST 26Original post

Color-plus also make a leather restorer called Soffener. it has worked really well in all of my cars to keep the leather soft and supple. My shift boot was as hard as cardboard and it is now like new. Great point about the dash and over-zealous leather treatment - never occurred to me that the leather would lift. Bill

POST 28 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

how do i know if i have full leather option? I have a MY03 carrera 2

POST 29Original post

Quotes source post: 9614099

Look for stitching on your dash surrounding your instrument cluster, leather on your door panels over airbag cover. There were many options available.

POST 30Original post

Quotes source post: 9605315

Meguires also makes a one-step wipe, both a cleaner and a conditioner, called Gold Class. Comes in a tall black plastic oval tube with 25 moist wipes. I used it for the first time this past Tuesday. So far, so good, but it is too soon to delare it a winner. It gave a very mild gloss to the leather, did not rub off on my clothes today, nor feel slippery while sitting on the seats. I have a full leather interior plus many leather options. I only needed 3 wipes to do the complete interior from dash, to seats/backs, to door panels, to console, to rear seats and side panels (all stitched leather). It did not discolor the plastic bits that it touched, and left no cake residue in the dash speakers. I'll check back here if I have any further comments, pro or con. I do not do leather treatments very often (lazy) so this will be an obvious change (or not) to the health of the leather in my car. The leather was not dried out or cracked to begin with. The front seats have a few patina marks in the expected places (lower side bolsters) from normal use over the past 13 years, and the stress and strain from my fat *** being in them daily.

POST 31Original post

Mark, we will work on your interior at the next Florida Crown Region detailing seminar. I have done everything else to your car for god's sake! - Ed FWIW, I don't use the expensive leather cremes and systems on most cars I work on. A large majority of leather these days are coated. It is difficult for the cremes to migrate into the hide so it really only sits on tbe surface. It will attract dirt and dust more easily. How do you know if your leather is coated? On an inconspicuous spot, a place a drop of water on it. If it beads it's coated. If it soaks in it is not coated and a prime candidate for the Leatherique systems. A product like 303 Aerospace will serve most of us perfectly. It's over the counter from most marine stores and affordable. Another recommendation is to keep your seats vacuumed regularly. Any grit will wear away your seats faster than Thundertubs fat ***.

POST 32Original post

Ed, I don't know what came over me. I am at a loss to explain why I suddenly felt the need to use the leather cleaner. It has never happened before. I was doing a super cleaning and deep vacuuming of the carpets after a weekend at Roebling Road. That Low Country sand in the paddock is insipid. I was done vacuuming, stood back to admire my work, and then I think the hot Florida sun burned my brain. I walked into the workshop, pulled that leather cleaning stuff off the shelf, and within a few minutes it was done. Sometimes I completely lose all sense of reality. I promise not to do it again before next year at Brumos, though I may have already soiled the path since the leather is no longer "original condition."

POST 33Original post

No harm Mark! There is nothing wrong with what you did and your interior will be just fine. You know me, I am just thrilled that you keep her clean.

POST 34Original post

LOL! I'm gonna have to use that bird joke on, well, everything! I've never been to Florida, but my wife and I are going to go down there at some point to visit her school and some fam down there. Luckily I won't have to worry about birds crapping on my head! Thanks for the leather tips too. I never thought about how not vacuuming could eat up your seats. Totally! Cool, can't wait to give the stuff a shot. 4 liters, here I come.
