Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Almost six months ago, I replace the RMS and installed the LN IMS upgraded.

So, this time, I replaced both the center o-ring and the flange seal.

I assume you replaced the intermediate shaft seal twice, not the bearing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just finished to replace the IMS and RMS for the second time in six months.
Granted, I might be the issue due to lack of expertise doing this!!! But, I wonder if it is possible to check if they are leaking before assembly everything back.
So would it be possible to start the engine before I install the tranny?
The first issue I forsee is that the clutch can not be depressed with the clutch master cylinder hanging loose, but there should be a way to trick this, right?
Any other potential problems in doing this?.
Thanks in advancevfor your advice
Start it. If you don't have a transmission, you don't need a clutch
Make sure the clutch is bolted on, it probably contributed to crank balance. As for why you have to do this twice in 6 months... Interested as to why and how you figured out that your replacement IMS needed doing again.
Yes, I replaced the IMS seals.
Almost six months ago, I replace the RMS and installed the LN IMS upgraded. After a while it started leaking again. It seems that it was leaking through the IMS center shaft. I might have damaged the oring during installation. So, this time, I replaced both the center o-ring and the flange seal. In reviewing the RMS it looks like it might be a leak there as well. It was not clear since the whole area was dirty due to the leak of the IMS, but I decided to replace it again, just in case.
Now, how do I start the engine if I can not press the clutch. I can not press the clutch pedal with the master cylinder loose because the piston will be blown out of the master cylinder.
Can you help me with this?
I just read a posting where one of our guys mentioned that a mechanic ran the engine with the tranny out of the car. They did this to diagnose a knocking coming from the engine. Here is the recent posting

So this may answer your question.
well you'll obviously have to bolt up the flywheel or flexplate.
After that, does the block have threads for the starter to bolt up on the 996 or are the threads on the transmission?
You will have to install the flywheel and the pulse sender. The engine will not start without a signal from the pulse sender, which gets it's signal from a ring on the flywheel. And of course once the flywheel is installed you can't see the RMS and IMS.
I think u r pissing in the wind.
1, no load on the engine and what are you going to do? Place a brick on the gas pedal and let it run at 3500 rpm for a few hours?
2, you may have another issue that your crank shaft is out of center.
3, fly wheel has to be installed anyway, covering the main and ims seal.
Good luck. But i think the time could be better spent putting the car back together.
I feel you are wasting your time and risking damage to the car and you.
Did you replace the IMS flange bolts? These are micro-sealed and are not reusable. They'll leak, allow oil to seep past the threads/head and well, a leak is a leak.
Sincerely,
Macster.
