Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Has anyone just replaced the bushings in the various control arms?

Suggestion
Replacing the bushings would usually mean going up to polyurethane which can be a bit too much for daily driving.

I would LOVE to replace all of my remaining control arms, but have a hard time justifying another $1000+ into this project.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm not the best at keeping my posts up to date, but here is my quick backstory on my car.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...n-journey.html
It's time for a suspension refresh. My car is an 02 Cabrio with 130k on it. I got the car up on the lift tonight & as far as I can tell, the suspension is 100% original.
I get it, the best idea would to be replacing EVERYTHING, but that's not realistic. Or even needed.
I'm shopping these over a few vendors to get a rough idea, then I'll start more narrowed research from there.
I've searched a ton, asked many questions & am hoping to post a good write up that would be helpful for someone else doing this...
I appreciate all feedback!
So here's my general list:
FRONT Struts
Front Strut Mounts
Lower Control Arms
Sway Bar End Links
Sway Bar Bushings
Outer CV Joints
Tie Rod ends
REAR control arms
trailing arms
sway bar end links
sway bar bushings
struts
My initial research shows this... (note - this is a high level estimate. Best apples to apples comparison but it's not perfect & you'll notice there are some definite outiiers --- EEuro front control arms)
I'm posting this for feedback. I want to make a good & well researched decision that can be documented to help others going forward...
If you're replacing the struts, you'll probably need a few replacement items in the strut/spring assembly: at least new bellows and bump stops. At 130k, your strut mount bearings are likely shot, too.
You may want to look at another post of mine here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...l#post19383330
There, I highlighted the parts in the strut/spring assembly that you should replace or reuse.
Here is my updated research... Basically,
New strut kits all the way around which includes bellows, bump stop, bearing & upper strut mount (Bilstein B4's)
New control arms all the way around
New sway bar bushings all the way around
New sway bars all the way around
Outer CV boot cover (mine need repair)
And a tie rod kit
~$3300!
Am I missing anything? Are there things I'm going overkill on???
So I have on order:
4 new strut assemblies
4 new lower control arms
4 new sway bar end links
4 sway bar bushings
Tie Rod Ends

Replacing the bushings would usually mean going up to polyurethane which can be a bit too much for daily driving. I've not seen OEM style bushings for these arms -- the labor to remove and install would likely outweigh the cost of new arms.
I did the same as you put everything on a spreadsheet and went to different places online, trying to get the OEM....Seems about right at the prices you are at. Im at 72k and I cant stand the creaks and floating feeling at high speeds. 1st oil change at the Indy tomorrow, my wallet will find out what is needed, when they put on the lift
Good luck OP on your project. I'm doing the same thing with my new to me 996 4S. I got a lot of ideas from this forum and leaning towards a coilover system to refresh my car's suspension. Taking it to a shop early next week.
I’m on a similar path. I replaced all the front control arms , drop link plus the outer tie rod in front and will be doing the rear control arms and drop links next week. So far about
$1100 so not too bad.
I’m planning on coilovers next depending on what kind of improvement I get.
The front made a big improvement in the floaty feeling. The car feels more on rails. I do feel the bumps a touch more but nothing that effects comfort.
