Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I knew it was starting to go a few months ago. Now, it is time to get the deed done with the upgraded bearing and new seals with the clutch. Looks like it will run me around $3500. Not mad, just looking forward to driving the car after a new clutch is in. Right now....just taking it easy until the parts come in so I can get it done. Doing it at the dealer as the indy mechanics out here suck. Anything else I should think about while the trans is out? Car is great besides the clutch....slight valve cover leak though. EDIT: And I am not complaining about it....I am sure it has the original clutch and at 65K....about time. Just being smart and getting everything done at once

POST 2Original post

it will be nice to have the new clutch and great decision to have the IMS and RMS done too.

Good call on that, almost forgot. Thanks,

Next time take it up to Cervelli in Denver. Please let us know what the stealer wants in parts and labor. Should be $110-120 for the AOS and since the motor's already out about an hour in labor. This could be interesting....

POST 7Original post

Why no good Indys in Colorado? No doubt you'll feel better when this is done.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Parts are ordered, should be in after the holiday. I am driving the car right now very, very, easy to not damage the flywheel. I think at about 65K miles.....it was about time and a great chance to take care of the other stuff. Will keep you all advised.

POST 9Original post

I had Dart Auto in Denver do my IMS and RMS recently, and would've had them do my clutch too if it had been necessary. Even if I had done the clutch, it would have been way (way) less than $3500; I think it would be worth it for you to give them a call. Also, they didn't need to drop the motor to do this so no benefit to doing AOS.

POST 10Original post

Just did mine, also did the AOS + Needed new Throw bearing, then got brakes done, it was a big bill, but well worth it!

POST 11Original post

Just did my IMS/RMS and have the old bearing. can post pics - what are you looking for?

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9044015

Well, all the parts are ordered, $1700 for parts. Now just waiting for them. I will at least get a 10% PCCA discount so should really not be that bad. I know it would have been cheaper with an Indy....but driving to Denver was out of the question for me. I had the money stored away so looking forward to having a car that drives like new. Needed an oil change anyway.

POST 13Original post

FWIW, I've been going to Autoworks Colorado in Littleton for about ten years. They always treat me right and have a ton of experience with the M96.

POST 14Original post

4 New O-ring seals on oil cooler... You can see coolant leak on left side of transmission ... white powder.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Car is in the shop and hope to get it back on Weds. Will let you all know how it goes. With the LM IMS bearing fix on my 2000....hope I have the dual row. We shall see. They ordered both the single and dual row. Really looking forward to getting the car back. The old IMS bearing might make a nice paperweight though

POST 16Original post

Congrats! You have to send the old bearing back for the warranty.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 9059998

Fill me in on that. Should I get the old one back from the dealer when it is replaced with the LM one? Did not think there was a warranty from LM...either it works or they call it a Porsche engineering fault.

POST 18Original post

Yes, make sure to get the original bearing from the dealer. LN sends a form with the bearing for the installer to complete, and to associate with a serial number (there are stickers included, 3 with the serial number and 1 with a bar code too that you can stick on the inside of your engine cover for future reference). You send the form (with one of the serial # stickers) and the bearing back, and LN does an autopsy on it to analyze wear. To be honest I'm not sure what their warranty covers but it's supposed to be on their website somewhere. If nothing else, letting them dissect the bearing can only help.

POST 19Original post

Warranty is described near the bottom of this page: http://www.lnengineering.com/ims.html

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks so much for all of you guys on the website. You have helped me out tons from the great threads and information. I am getting the car back tomorrow and for 2000...they had the single and dual row IMS bearings. My car just happened to have the dual row that was replaced with the IMS fix. To me that was great news....granted, a car repair bill like this sucks close to Christmas time...but still happy to get it back tomorrow. Will be like a brand new car. No other problems were noted. I will talk to the tech and make sure I get the OEM IMS bearing back and talk to him about the condition of the RMS and the IMS. Thanks again all!!!!!

POST 21Original post

Uhmmmm. Why didnt you do the work yourself and save the labor cost?

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just a final update. Car is back and drives OUTSTANDING!!!! A new clutch is such a great feeling. Glad the work is done....too bad the snow started. Feels like a totally new car!!! Took me a while to get used to the light feeling of the new clutch. Thanks again for all the help guys.

POST 25Original post

congrats!! I am getting ready to do this whole deal. Can you post a full list of parts and things that you had done? I am attempting to order all my parts before I go into my mechanic... I want to save the few $ ordering myself. Thanks a lot! -Paul
