Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Nice, but agree that the finish is below par, looks like you used "wrinkle" paint which is a very durable and nice looking to me finish.

I have just started the car bc I am building and designing parts through the winter and don't really plan to drive it untill everything is done to take to a local dyno and pull test runs on stock vs my designs to have some proven data.
Leading evidence: 'Use "wrinkle" paint' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test runs' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

It uses 3" aluminum pipe stepped up to a 4" bellmouth velocity stack with a cone filter.

I wanted to use gold heat tape for it but wanted to represent it more as a production piece for people that like a non-contrast part in their bay.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It uses 3" aluminum pipe stepped up to a 4" bellmouth velocity stack with a cone filter. I will be making a box for it as well to connect it to the stock airbox snorkle. I didn't like any of the other companys designs. Reason being is that non of them had a long enough straight section of tube in front of the MAF location for it to get the best air metering readings. I wanted to do a 6" straight but the bay just wouldn't allow it so mine is more close to 5". Maybe a little bit longer.
Let me know what you guys think
if the finish is nice i don't know why you wouldn't be able to sell some of these to other 996 owners if you were into it...seems like a good application and design.
i know the 964 forum would have a hay-day with your sculpture. several of the 964 owners have converted to the direct airflow setup to eliminate the airbox.
I plan on offering it. I'm developing a full line of items over the winter to release to the public. I will become a sponsor of this website to do so when I have all of them ready.
Thanks for the words
. nice work.
It's been a while since I looked at how far in the MAF sensor goes into the stock tube vs the EVOM CAI, but if that MAF attachment block on your design puts the sensor wire right in the center of the tube, you should be getting optimal air readings. Another issue I came across when dealing with CAI's and MAF , etc. was the TPMS voltage. Does anyone know what those settings should be ?
Looks good, any noticeable power difference? I'm thinking you may want to isolate the filter in a box of sorts to isolate it from residual engine heat. You'll most likely want cool incoming air flow to the filter as well. Might think of insulating the tube from engine heat too. Denser cooler air makes the most power. Think: Intercooler
GL!
Ya I mentioned that I will be designing the box for it next. I have just started the car bc I am building and designing parts through the winter and don't really plan to drive it untill everything is done to take to a local dyno and pull test runs on stock vs my designs to have some proven data. I wanted to use gold heat tape for it but wanted to represent it more as a production piece for people that like a non-contrast part in their bay. Specially dealing with Porsche people.
I just ordered a durametric the other day so I will be able to get those readings for you.
I should have carefully read your fist post instead of just looking at the pics before commenting. I have a lot of experience building high performance motors over the last several decades as it's part of what I do for a living.
Anyway, the stock intake has a fresh ambient air inlet over the rear deck that feeds the stock air box. It looks as though there is a ram effect of sorts that would be created at speed as opposed to having the car stationary. I've often doubted if the dyno would reflect any increase in power relative to having a small positive pressure in the air box which may occur at speed vs. the car being in relatively still air. You could very well have an increase that would not show up on the dyno.
Nice, but agree that the finish is below par, looks like you used "wrinkle" paint which is a very durable and nice looking to me finish. When using it thou it needs heat to make the paint wrinkle if it is cold out a hair dryer works . The picture of my intercooler done with wrinkle paint.
True that. Dyno tests of intakes on any modern car are not very useful. All good modern cars have the intakes designed by the manufacturer to work well with the air flow at speed. Quite often 3rd party intakes will be better when sitting still on a dyno, but worse when the car is moving.
(and no, pointing a fan at the engine is not an accurate simulation of the air flow at speed)
To the OP - I like the design of your intake (assuming you put on a snorkel similar to the stock one). The most important question is - how does it sound??
+1
It looks to me that this design is tucked too far into the far(away from cooler incoming air) corner and would be pulling more hot engine air than cooler outside air.
That is what I was thinking. My Fabspeed intake is installed there and I know it gets alot of air since it gets dirty pretty quick. Looks like on the right side, you will get more engine heat. Looks nice though.
