according to my shop here in seattle they always replace the RMS when removing transmission because it sort of a no brainer as the cost is so low to do it.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Recently picked up a low mileage '99 cab (~61k miles) for a good deal. Car had PPI and the shop said expect an imminent clutch replacement. That contributed to final price from private party ($20k). Car is polar silver with full blue mertropole(?) top and interior. It looks like it also has Aluminum(?) trim package.
Unfortunately, It only took about 100 miles or so to feel clutch starting to slip. Until that time, my wife and I drove the car for about another 100 miles or so before taking "Sally" in. The shop said it wouldn't hurt to consider an IMS bearing upgrade but by no means did they go for a hard up sell. Seeing as I plan on keeping her for a long time, I had it done. Clutch was quoted at $1550 (with flywheel resurface) and it was about an extra $900 for LN engineering IMS bearing upgrade. Clutch and pressure plate appeared to have about 2 more miles of life left!
I wasn't sure about forum rules so I didn't name the shop, but feel free to PM if you want a highly recommended shop reference in north San Diego county.
Woo-hoo! Man she really screams now. I get the feeling that there was always a subtle clutch slip but it really started having classic slip symptoms after that 1st 100 miles or so.
At some point I thought I ran across something regarding an Aluminum or chrome package and it implied different (stainless steel?) mufflers. True? Yes, I tried a search.
Looking forward to great information.

scott...nice car and have fun!...FYI i recently(last week)had my clutch and flywheel done and decided to do the ln engineering IMS ceramic bearing upgrade and also recommended RMS. if i was to break down the actual cost of the IMS replacement it would work out to about $720 ($619 bearing cost and 1 hour labor)
did your shop replace the RMS?....the cost of the RMS is $20 and takes about 15 minutes to remove and install.
according to my shop here in seattle they always replace the RMS when removing transmission because it sort of a no brainer as the cost is so low to do it.
i was also surprised at the actual part cost of the IMS bearing...$619 seems really steep for that little bugger.
Thanks for the compliments.
Groovzilla, yes had the RMS done at the same time and yeah $619 for the IMS bearing upgrade??!!! Like your sig. car. This is not my 1st car from Stuttgart. I used to have a '61 B coupe, white on red.
Barn, that is a '94 Honda NSR250 bike (originally in Rothmans livery ala Freddie Spencer). I used to race it with WERA but now its just a towel rack!
Nice cab. I've had my 99 for 4 trouble free years now and love it.
Only problem is it's winter here now and it's under the cover in the garage.
Good luck with the new ride.
