Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have pair of hard back sports seats from a 996 gt3 which I am considering painting the the "hard back" to match my car. Does any know how to remove the hard back from these seats. Is there a DIY on this? I tried the search feature but have been unscuessful finding any useful information. Any help would be greatly apreciated. TYIA Bob-

I'd like to know this myself.

POST 3Original post

I did see a DIY on this either here, Renntech of 6speed. It didn't look simple, but it would be nice to have the seat backs painted.

POST 4Original post

Did it once and it is a lot of work but doable. The finished product looks great. Unfortunately, we did not take pictures. You basically need to work the leather seat cover out from the entire hardback by gently prying out the cover. It is pushed in and held by small metal clips about every three inches. The cover pulls out with the clips. Get yourself an interior trim/molding removal took set like the one in the below link. You will need something like that to work around the back pulling out the cover. Once you have worked all the cover out of the back (and removed the seat) you will be able to see the screws and springs that you have to remove to release the hardback. You can do it but it is time consuming. http://www.jcwhitney.com/5-piece-int.../p2017647.jcwx
