Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

There is a way to check the switch using the end of the wire harness by grounding the pin for this switch but I can't remember which color wire it is on the end of the plug.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Have a 996 cabrio and when the spoiler is raised, it kills the normal 3rd brake light like it is suppose to but the spoiler brake light doesn't light up. Bench tested the unit and all bulbs work. Any tips for troubleshooting? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

Sorry if I'm totally off here, but is there a fuse for the breake light?

POST 3Original post

There are two micro switches located side by side that the drive arm from the motor make contact with. The switch that turns on the 3rd brake light on the edge of the wing that is hidden when the wing is in the down position may be defective. When the wing goes up the switch for the chassis mounted light should turn off as the arm touches the switch and at the same time the other switch is turn on. (They are mounted side by side) Either that or one of the wires is loose or has fallen off. You have to remove the wing and lid from your car (way easier) and get your hand up between the black metal base that you see on the inside of the lid and the base of the wing to get to it. Check switch with an ohm meter. There is a way to check the switch using the end of the wire harness by grounding the pin for this switch but I can't remember which color wire it is on the end of the plug. Do you have the light on the dash for wing "up" position working? These switches do double duty and act as limit switches and the lamp on the dash ties into this circuit. I believe there is only one brake light fuse as I found this out installing new LED taillights. (Don't ask!) It could be just a loose connection to the lamp strip or the wire has fallen off the switch terminal. I've taken a pic of of the switches out of my old wing for you. Good luck.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

No light on dash when the lid is in the up position. New to the 996 and didn't even know it had one. Thought it only had one for faults. Sounds like the coulprit. Thanks for the info!!
