Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

it's my understanding that dealerships worldwide are putting all used P cars that sit on the lot into rotation.

Suggestion
Cars cost more here in New Zealand than in the States, hence less people running 'expensive' cars hence 911s really stand out.

My 335 has always run best on Chevron or Shell gas, and those brands seem to agree with the 996tt as well.

Suggestion
we all make choices, hell you might eat peanut butter and jelly for 12 years to save enough to buy a 996 (which BTW is 1/2 the price of a new prius or other POS planet saver - which BTW turns out to use more natural resources to make than ANY other car on the planet!) - I, personally could give a rat a$$ what other people think about what I do with my money - I bought it by what ever means I felt apropriate and I am going to drive the sh#t out of it

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've been taking it out for a drive once per week or once every other week.
From an "avoiding additional maintenance/repairs" perspective, how often would you recommend taking it out for a drive?
Assuming that you drive the car for a long time enough to let it warm up properly I would say once a week or once every week is good enough.
If you let the stretch out close to the redline every now and then it's even better....
Love the name too... lol
I drive the car now, about as often as you do (if not at a DE). Once a week / every other week is reasonable if the drive is long enough. I think the car had less little issues when I drove it every day. Just my 0.02.
You should schedule it like anything else be it vitamin intake or your daily workout. Force yourself to drive it every day for a minimum of 45 minutes. it's my understanding that dealerships worldwide are putting all used P cars that sit on the lot into rotation. Porters and sales personal who fail to meet quotas are pressed into driving aimlessly around the lot so the stealers don't have to eat the IMS retrofit if a new sale goes south. Oh the humanity !!!!
I travel most of the week every week, so weekends is all I get with the car.
It sat on a dealer lot for about 2 months before I picked it up. It felt a little rough at times that first week, But I've put about 700 miles on it in 4 weeks. It had fresh gas when I picked it up, but we have ethanol in our gas and some water might have condensed in the tank while it was sitting.
It has smoothed out considerably since it is being driven regularly. My 335 has always run best on Chevron or Shell gas, and those brands seem to agree with the 996tt as well.
I drive mine only on weekends, I have to park on the road at work, and the roads are narrow as.
Also I don't want my colleagues to know that I own a 911.
Not sure what model/year you own but I can tell you people perceive or think that only because you own one you are rich, stock up, etc... So I hear you on that. My 996 now is worth 1/4 of what it was new probably. I definetely did not buy new so had someone pay for the depreciation on her. People that I know who know ZERO about cars see my car and say "wow" you most be doing well...
I've got an '03 however because all 911s look the same people are never sure whether it's brand new or not. A friend thought it was a pre-1990 911, his twin brother labeled him an 'idiot'.
Cars cost more here in New Zealand than in the States, hence less people running 'expensive' cars hence 911s really stand out. I went on a 1000 miles trip and not once I saw another 911 or F car or L car or AM.
+1 , I'm amazed how Pcars values are still quite high overseas.
here in the US, luckily, with my colleagues, I've told them "this 10 year old car cost me less than a Lexus, or BMW, or some fully loaded SUV", then state some arbitrary number in the range of $25-$35K; I wasn't the first; another colleague purchased a high mileage Cab for around $17K from a friend ( it seriously is a "beater").
I've educated a few to the heavy depreciation the 996's have taken; so they're really affordable ( provided they can do some maintenance / find a good indie).
Prices:
Brand new 997 C4 Cab US$175,000
Mine US$50,000
Brand new Accord V6 Mugen US$47,000
My Mazda DD - beater - US$1,000
There is a myth that European vehicles cost more to maintain. However the labour cost between the Honda dealer and good Porsche indie might only differ by $5/hr.
Parts can cost more but can be sourced from US or UK which will give around 40-50% savings over list price.
I can relate. I'm a government employee and I'm not "supposed" to be able to afford anything better than a Dodge. First time I drove my 996 to work, an envious co-worker told me "that just crosses the line."
Haha, that was hilarious, must be a pretty damn faint line as I've never hard of this line.
I work for the national weather service, naturally lots of people are 'close to nature'. I'd like to see their faces when I turn up on my 'barbaric', 'planet destroying', 'politically unacceptable', 'loud' flat 6, parking next to their 'I'm saving the planet' hybrid cars.
+10000!
as for the "not supposed to be able to afford this" type of thinking - I am often shocked that people - seemingly intellegent people, confuse dedication and hard work saving enouogh money to buy something you want with being rich.... we all make choices, hell you might eat peanut butter and jelly for 12 years to save enough to buy a 996 (which BTW is 1/2 the price of a new prius or other POS planet saver - which BTW turns out to use more natural resources to make than ANY other car on the planet!) - I, personally could give a rat a$$ what other people think about what I do with my money - I bought it by what ever means I felt apropriate and I am going to drive the sh#t out of it
