Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I sold my 930 (found a great home in Montana) so its full speed ahead into a 996. If you guys see any 99-03's (coupe, six speed and not silver) let me know.
I have requested info from about 4 owners and they are all dragging their feet, kind of weird. When some one asked me about my car or wanted photos I was all over it.
I found one 2001 aero with low miles but they want 27k. I think that is way too high. Its at a Jeep dealership so they have no clue about the car. Have you guys ever just low balled a number and had any luck.
Anyway I am really excited about finding a 996! Shopping for cars is much more fun than selling cars!
Congrats on the sale and good luck with search. I believe there are few good samples in this forum and out there. What miles, options, colors are you looking for?

have not seen this in person, but I like the looks
also this car was for sale but I have not heard form him in a while

probably one of the cleanest cars I have seen AND a new motor
I am one of the people who say early is better....MKI's look better and have fewer gagets
biggest diff is the 3 chain PLUS motor vs the 5 chain non-plus - lots of threads discussing "differences"
Most of the aeros are 99s for some reason. There are 00 and 01s around but not always as a C2. I see many C4 aeros around so just have to be patient and wait for the right one to pop up.
Cards...
Any preferences? Mk1/Mk2.....that will help narrow it down. Not big difference between the two and I am on the camp that neither has a higher failure/dependability rate than the other.
I think it might be best if you specify your price range, may be per year / mileage.
I am moving out of state and I am guessing myself, about bringing my car with me or not... My wife doesn't want me to sell, but you know Porsche owner, always looking for the next one
I think I'd sell mine for $34k ... if I decided to sell it. It is a Texas car 2003 C2 slate gray, 32k miles, with all maintenance paper since original owner, previous owner bought the car as cpo, window sticker, 3 set of keys, extended warranty for one more year, bose, no psm, full carbon interior (oem), electric seat with memory, full leather interior black with dark gray stitching, short shift B&M (include oem shifter), dension ipod, litornics, auto dimming mirror, fister-D exhaust mod, tequipment dual chrome muffler tip, brand new RoW-M030 suspension (installed this week), paint got swirl, but no dings, needs a detailing but I never did it.
pictures here
what do you guys think, would that be proper price ?
Phil...have you gone nutz?
you just upgraded the suspension and now think you would sell it....what the heck, not enough cowbell in the ROW
told ya go with X73/4
Thanks for the messages. No need to worry I am up to speed on the differences between the 3.4 and 3.6. (I am a factory trained p tech and work at patrick motorsports.)
The two cars listed in Denver (thanks for posting them) are two great examples of in my opinion too high of an asking price. I wouldn't even bother with those two cars because the owners are so far off. Now maybe I am wrong (I have been shopping for awhile now and I am in the "industry") but I think a 99-01 unless super mint isn't worth more that 21k and a 3.6 is around 23-28k. For more than 28k then you are talking C4s and high mile 996 turbos. Am I wrong? What do you guys think?
I am looking for a 6speed coupe not silver (sorry to anyone with a silver car) with less that 95K miles and nothing under 40k miles. aero cars are a plus.Suspension mods a plus, but I already have a set of pss9's. If it takes some money to get them up to speed (water pump, tune up ect) not a problem (cheaper for me to own a Porsche than a honda). If I do get a high mile car I will just rebuild the engine down the road (once again not the end of the world for me to do it my self).I really don't want a higher mileage car just for the resale side. My ball park price range is 17-24K cash. Any good leads would help. I email 4 people off of auto trader yesterday and haven't heard anything back...frustrating.
Thanks again,
Scott

139K but new engine 27K miles ago.

You will not find a better value since you can wrench yourself and sell your PSS9 for aero bits like this. You can then sell your stock bumper to boxster spec racers.

I would not lump 996 C4S and a turbo in the $28K+ range. There is a $5-8K premium even for beat up turbos from C4Ss.
No worries, I am not selling the car but if someone would knock on my door and give me a good price. As any good Porsche owner/fanatic I'd think about an upgrade
I just love car shopping
chsu74,
That is the kind of find I am looking for. I totally forgot about 6speed (now I have to sign up for 6speed). I will get with that guy. Also let me know if you ever decide to sell yours I would be interested.
I don't really care between a 3.4 and a 3.6. I like the look of the 3.6 better stock vs a stock 3.4 but I can always chance that. Its all about how much you want to pay.
Any other thoughts on my ideas for how much 996 are worth?
Thanks again,
Scott
Scott,
My car is silver with gray Interior. Its everything you don't want...
A part of me want to get something else pretty bad. Another part of me is telling me that finding another pcar that has been this trouble free will be rolling the dice.
I can just drop another $4K and get all the potential issues taken care of and drive it until the wheels fall off...
I think your numbers are pretty good as a ballpark starting point.

A few other bits of 996 shopping advice:
1. Find a car with lots of options such as full leather, PSM, Bi-Xenon and/or expensive options packages like Advanced Technics. These don't add much to the value of the car used, but were pricey bits when it was new. Interior options ike full leather, carbon, and aluminum can really dress up a somewhat low rent cabin. (If you are building a track car or you are psycho about weight then you would of course disregard this advice.)
2. Be patient. There are lots of 996s out there and the list changes every day.
3. Set a basic parameter of colors, years, and options to narrow your initial larger searches more easily.
4. Most online ads are either incomplete or wrong so get to know option packages. For example, I wanted a car with Bi-Xenons. That option most often came in the year range I was looking for as part of the Advanced Technic package that also included the Bose sound system. So if I didn't see Bose speakers in the door panels, the car probably did not have Bi-Xenons.
Good luck!
