Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The climate control fan on my 2000 996 C2 only works sporadically. The control unit shows that the fan is working but no air is being blown out of the the ducts. I have tried selecting min and max temperatures (and points in between) in auto mode and various levels in manual mode to no avail. This seems to happen on warmer days when the car has spent some time left out in the sun. Once the car has spent some time in a cool place it usually starts to work again. I have noticed that the failures are becoming more frequent and the recovery period takes longer. Has anyone any ideas?

POST 2Original post

sounds like an intermittent connection problem or the fan is on its way out. Id start with wiring, then R&R the blower... Welcome to the forum, any pics of your car?

Anything else act up at the same time? Ignition switch feel normal when you are turning it? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...on-switch.html

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the quick reply. Sorry to come across as dumb, but what do you mean by R&R? Attached is a picture.

Nothing else seems out of place. The ignition switch is fine.

POST 7Original post

R&R = remove and replace. Here is the schematic if you don already have it. BTW, beautiful car!

POST 8Original post

actually, the ignition switch is a great place to start.... its cheap and easy to install. My wipers worked intermittently and it fixed the problem....

POST 9Original post

there was a TSB awhile back about some condensation dripping onto the plugs behind the climatronic unit. it causes some corrosion on the contacts & can create a wide array of intermittent issues, some if which are exactly as you describe. remove the climatronic & wire brush the contacts on the unit itself & on the harness plug.
