Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Easily a more fun car to drive on the street than a 911. but a base 986 is dogslow and a tip even more so.

I bought my boxster for $2500 thinking it would be a great project. In the end cost $20K cause all the used engines were crap. So I put a rebuilt one in, Boxster's are not worth enough to fix, plus I can't imagine the cost of shipping to the continent.
I agree, and I don't live on a continent!
My wife wants me to find a roller that's an auto and bring it back to life for her. This is definitely not it...
The Craigslist posting is gone, but I assume it is/was a 986 roller.
I wouldn’t buy a roller 986.
Repair will be more than the value, even if you do all the work yourself.
Buy one in good mechanical condition that just needs some(or lots of) minor repairs.
It will be about what you paid for your 996 roller.
I find lots of running $3500-5000 986s not that far from me. (Within 100 miles)
I’m waiting for a running one within 5 or 10 miles.
I’m in no hurry.
Boxsters are like Dixie cups. Drive it once, throw it away.
I don't see an upside to a Boxster purchase over a 996 until maybe 10 or more years. The 914 is just starting to come out of the dumps, mostly because all the rear engine air cooled are just outrageous. (and don't come at me with some high option, pristine 914-6 like the wrapper for a fem hygiene product)
