Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Started using spill pads then quickly resorted to the shop vac which worked exceptionally well.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A little too much fun on the dirt roads this evening. I see new oil pans readily available from all the online vendors but would be great if a southern New England neighbor might have one I could pick up tomorrow? Willing to drive at least a couple hours from Rhode Island.
So true, I didn't even notice anything awry when I parked until a couple minutes later when my youngest announced a weird smell from the garage. Started using spill pads then quickly resorted to the shop vac which worked exceptionally well.
I got my replacement pan used off ebay for $80. Doesnt really help with your problem but if u go used maybe overnight shippng is affordable? Make sure u do a real good inspection of the block skirting that foorms the pan as it can crack too.
The way i got my roller but easiky fixed.
@ De Jeeper, Just ordered the pan and seal goop from FCP Euro; cant beat their 100% lifetime parts warranty. I'll look look the case over real well and hope it's no where near the damage you had to fix on your roller steal. My 6 month old AOS is also due a replacement which likely helped hold the oil in the pan until I parked (increased negative pressure).
How did you fix your cracked case?
A point that quickly becomes obvious to 996 - and indeed most all 911 - owners: these cars like smooth roads. Not just paved, but smoothly paved, with few surface defects.
Yes, they can cope with bad surfaces (up to a point, as this thread illustrates). But they aren't very happy when the surface is rough, and certainly won't demonstrate their best performance (especially cornering) there.
You got very lucky with the shop vac. Oil is flammable especially if hot. Shop vac motors make sparks.

How did i fix it
? I rented a good tig and i have a Kenny. A kenny is a slightly antisocial machinist that is 50+ years old and still lives with his partents. The guy is amazing with a lathe, mill and welder. I can do basic stuff but when i need tolerances held to 4 places i use him.
Both my mom and my wife also informed me that the 911 was not supposed to be driven sideways in the dirt...
Sweet Kenny welds! Here's my Kenny handyman.
