Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

GBOX was on my list to check into, thanks for saving me some time and probably a bunch of headaches...
Leading evidence: 'bunch of headaches' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'bunch of headaches' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check into, thanks' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

If you can it's an issue with gear change below the center console.

I can push the smaller upper lever back toward the engine and using a pry I can push it further back into position to engage reverse.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Having an issue with a '99 C2 6MT. I've lost the ability to shift into reverse. It was working normally, right up until it wasn't. There was nothing interesting or notable that happened that would have caused it.
I can push the shifter all the way left to get to reverse but then it will not move up, into gear. There is no trouble shifting through all of the other gears. I've done a lot of searching but mostly come up other issues. Not one where only reverse is affected. What I can find points to either the shifter cables being broken, out of adjustment, or to an internal transmission issue but without detail on what that actually would be. Thinking (hoping) it was just the cable and having debated upgrading to the Numeric cables for awhile (already had the Numeric shifter installed), I went ahead and ordered cables.
With the cables off, and following the Numeric install instructions, I checked that the small lever on the transmission will reach all locations and the same for the larger lever. All appears fine and I connected the new cables. Unfortunately, it did not resolve the issue. It feels exactly the same. I can push all the way left for reverse but the shifter will not move any further, like it is blocked from going into reverse.
Any ideas or recommendations appreciated.
Tell us if you can put the gearbox in reverse by moving the levers in your posted photo.

If you cannot, it is an issue internal to gearbox
I can push the smaller upper lever back toward the engine and using a pry I can push it further back into position to engage reverse. In that position, I cannot move the lower lever.
Is this anything that can be fixed without taking the transmission apart? Something accessible/replaceable via a detent pin plug?
Nope trans needs to come out and be opened up. There r a bunch of good rebuilders out there but do your research. Gbox has been getting a rough review in the 6-turbo forum.
Before assuming a rebuild is needed, I'd make 100% sure the lever was moving the cable far enough to allow engagement of reverse when everything is hooked up. Maybe set up your phone to record video while you move the lever from inside the car? Or get a friend to assist.
I've tried engaging reverse with that smaller lever at all degrees of travel that I can get it to. I've tried at the shifter with someone else in the seat and from below by moving the levers on the transmission manually. Nothing frees it up to move into reverse.
After talking to a few more folks, you're right, it will need to be opened up. Although, I'll likely have to find another to swap in and then see about a rebuild.
