There is a ground point under the seat. Trace the brown wires. Remove the ground point nut and clean all the connectors. Are you sure the immobilizer never got wet? Make sure all of your drains are clear.

Thanks for the reply, I'll follow your suggestions! Yes, it got wet years ago before I owned it; previous owner had receipts of repairs. I've had the car for four years and hadn't had any issues until this past year. Definitely not wet now, I cleaned the drains last year, is it a yearly maintenance item?
