I say this because I have spent ages adjusting my seats and cannot get even close to an ideal level of comfort but other tall folks claim they have no issue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am 6 3, 250 lbs and am trying to figure out how to fit my 2004 996 C4S better. Currently, my head touches the roof slightly and to make matters worse, I want to participate in some driver improvement events and a helmet is needed. I have the electric comfort seats currently (with sunroof) and the main issue seems to be that Im sitting too high off the floor of the car, even with the seat lowered as much as possible. So I wanted to ask for experience and recommendations. I dont want to get a full race seat since this is my DD 😊 I have tried the Recaro Sportster CS seat and found it comfortable. But I dont know that it would solve my primary issue by lowering the seat overall to get me a few more inches of headroom. Anyone know of a floor mount kit for this seat? Other ideas?

POST 2Original post

The brey-krause sidemounts for the factory Euro GT3 seat offer more headroom by being lower and reclining a bit. I am 6'2 200lbs and I fit well with mine. Now if you knew someone who had one of these seats for sale (I happen to) you could get that seat plus the BK side mounts and have a nice setup for putting in on track days, which is what I did for years. And you can still use the factory sliders (I have also for sale)

POST 3Original post

Here is a seat lowering bracket: http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-...slb-detail.htm But please check carefully to make sure it would work for you.

Not to sound unhelpful, but have you tried modifying your seating position? I'm 6' and have the same seats as you, and have plenty of room. I wouldn't think a 3" taller person would have major problems. The seat tracks are slightly reclined, so as you go farther back (longer arms and legs) you should gain a little headroom, so I'd think you would fit too. I find a good seating position in most cars basically as follows: 1) move the seat bottom rear edge all the way down 2) move the seat bottom front edge all the way up (maximum recline of the seat bottom, this helps keep you in the seat, so you don't tend to slide off the front of it, especially while braking. 3) adjust seat bottom fore-aft so that when clutch pedal is pressed all the way, your leg is still slightly bent 4) adjust seat back recline so the steering wheel is a comfortable distance. Ideally your elbows would be bent about 90-100 degrees when holding the wheel at 9 and 3, but realistically in this car you have to be reclined more to fit your head. When I first got my car I felt like I was too far from the steering wheel, but I've gotten used to it. You could also have an upholstery shop scoop a little bit of the foam out of the seat bottom cushion and re-attach it; that might get you down another inch at most. If that doesn't work, then you're looking at aftermarket seats, brackets, etc. as you've already started to look at. I'd suggest getting ones that have pass-throughs for shoulder and anti-submarine belts so that if you choose to add harnesses in the future you'll have the prerequisites. The Recaro seat you're looking at does not have sub-belt holes, so only 4-point harnesses would work. Those are okay for autocross, but aren't allowed at most track events.

Thanks everyone for the advice! This made me wonder about sports VS comfort seats. The have comfort seats and did see some speculation that the bottom of these seats sit higher than the sports seats (more padding??). Or maybe higher than the 'standard' seats. I say this because I have spent ages adjusting my seats and cannot get even close to an ideal level of comfort but other tall folks claim they have no issue.

POST 7Original post

It's only 4 bolts to disconnect the seat. Why not install a low-mounted race-type seat before an event? Get a simple seat like a Sparco Pro2000 or something. You'd have a better seat in a better position when you need it. Then just swap it out for your stock seat after the event.

POST 8Original post

I'm 6'4" / 250 and barely fit with a helmet on. Add in size 14/15's and it's almost impossible to shift quickly. I too have the factory comfort leather seats. 03 C4S.

OP, I'm roughly your dimensions and mass. If you haven't done the lower console delete, you may want to consider it. The amount of legroom it opens up allows me to settle into the seat fully. The extra half inch is enough to get the helmet into the sunroof well. Dropping to a manual slider or a bolted base should also buy you half an inch. You can cut out the sunroof and replace it with a fixed panel. This should net you about an inch. That's about it for easy-ish height accommodations I can come up with offhand. Not that removing and replacing the sunroof is "easy..." It is physically impossible for me to heel-toe in about half of the shoes I own. Narrower running shoes and dress shoes are better. Pilotis are best but I always feel like a douche nozzle wearing 'em. I'm at the 13/14 break; I can't even imagine trying to stuff size 15's into the 996's pedal box.

POST 12Original post

The guy already said it's impossible to shift quickly, so at that point, the tip is a lateral move for him. (Yes, that was deliberately inflammatory and designed to elicit a response from tip owners. Let's see if they take the bait, even after reading this sentence.) $0.25 says Johnny Irish comments in less than 24 hours
